CHEYENNE – Caleigh Essert shot an even par 70 Thursday during the Cheyenne Invitational and helped pave the way for the Torrington girls golf team to pick up a third-place finish.
Essert’s par on Thursday was followed up by a 73 Friday, putting her two-day score at 143. She bested the second-place finisher by 13 strokes.
Laura Halley snuck into the top-10 on the leader board. She carded a 98 on the first day, but rallied to shot a career-best 84 Friday to snag 10th with a two-day score of 182. Audrey Perry rounded out the top-three for the Lady Blazers, shooting a 106 on the first day and 105 on the second day, finishing 25th with a two-day score of 211.
The top-three Lady Blazers combined to shoot a 274 on Thursday and a 262 Friday. Their two-day score of 536 was good enough for third, only behind Kelly Walsh (491) and Natrona (501).

“For our girls to finish third as a team against so many good 4A schools and only losing by a small amount to the two favorites in 4A is a great weekend,” coach Jeff Halley said.
Jade Reinhardt and Kaylee Wilson filled out the five Torrington girls competing in Cheyenne. Reinhardt took 30th with a two-day score of 227 (113, 114), while Wilson slid in just behind her teammate, taking 31st with a two-day score of 234 (127, 107).
Jordan Malm paced the Torrington boys, tying for 23rd. On Thursday, he shot an 85, followed by an 81 Friday. Cameron Murphy was added to the mix for the Blazers for his first tournament of the season. He shot a 95 Thursday and trimmed that to an 80 on Friday to move up to 33rd on the leader board. Wyatt Lackman was the final boy to compete for Torrington, shooting a 107 on both days to finish 54th.
“The boys are still a work in progress as we added Cameron Murphy to our group, but we will need to find a fourth player for a team score,” Halley said.
The three Blazer boys combined to shoot a 287 on Day 1, followed by a 268 on Day 2. With only three golfers, they automatically slid behind all of the teams with four golfers, but they did manage to snag ninth as a team. Cheyenne Central won the boys’ division.
Torrington returns to the course for their only home invitational of the fall season. They are set to compete at the Cottonwood at Torrington golf course Thursday and Friday.
