COLFAX, N.C. – Donna Mae Lathrop McCaslin, 89, of River Landing at Sandy Ridge in Colfax, passed away Thursday, Aug. 22, 2019

A graveside service will be held in June 2020 at Valley View Cemetery in Torrington alongside her loving husband, the Rev. Dr. Robert O. McCaslin and beloved son, Shawn D. McCaslin.

Donna was born in Torrington to the late Les and Caroline Lathrop on April 25, 1930. She attended school in Torrington and Tucumcari, N.M. She married Bob on July 31, 1960. Donna worked with Bob in nonprofit fundraising. They actively served the Presbyterian Church in many capacities. Donna was a gifted artist and taught oil painting classes for many years. Donna and Bob loved raising their family; their door was always open to children and youth in search of a loving environment.

Donna is survived by her step-daughter Barbara Becker, of High Pont, N.C.; step-sons Tom McCaslin of La Canada, Calif., and Ian McCaslin of Apex, N.C.; adopted son John McCaslin of Horseshoe, N.C., grandchildren Susan Dermer Morphis of Farmville, N.C., Robert Dermer of Buford, Ga., Ross McCaslin of Yokosuka, Japan, Amy McCaslin of Las Vegas, Nev., and McKechnie McCaslin of Rye, N.H.; great-grandchildren Colin Dermer, Nathan Barrow and Sam Barrow; sister Billie Elder of Torrington; and brother Dean Lathrop of Phoenix, Ariz.

The family of Donna wishes to extend sincere thanks to the caring staff at River Landing at Sandy Ridge, Hospice of the Piedmont and the Congregational Care Community and Presbyterian Women of the First Presbyterian Church of High Point.

Memorial donations may be given to the First Presbyterian Church, 918 N. Main St., High Point NC, 27262 or to Presbyterian College, 503 S. Broad St, Clinton SC 29325.
