LINGLE – Mayor George Siglin announced the town received a private donation for its proposed new community center at the Lingle Town Council meeting Wednesday evening.

Mark Gordon, current state treasurer and candidate for governor, sent a $5,000 check for the cause. In a card to the town, Gordon explained he’s hunted geese nearby for the last several years and feels a connection to the community.

Gordon also expressed fondness for Lingle’s motto, “Small, but proud.”

In other business:

• Goshen County Economic Development Corporation CEO and Executive Director Ashley Harpstreith talked about the organization and resources it offers local communities.

“They really do help us a tremendous amount,” Clerk-Treasurer Michele
Sussex said.

• The council approved Lingle Pool Manager Brandi Hill’s request to order a new projector for the facility.

• The council also approved a bid from Barry Lee to paint the town’s bandshell at Whipple Park in anticipation of the 100th anniversary celebration in July.

• The town passed the third and final reading of Ordinance No. 336 relating to the regulation of nuisances. Attorney Greg Knudsen said the document offers different procedures to make the ordinance “more enforceable”.

• Maintenance Supervisor Larry Haeffelin said his department is working to cut the sod at Whipple Park for resodding, weed control and other beautification purposes.

• The next 100-year anniversary committee meeting is set for 7 p.m., Wednesday, March 28 at at Lingle Town Hall.

• The Town of Lingle will host a “Fact or Fiction Night” regarding the proposed new community center, 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 10 at the Lingle Legion Hall

Residents are encouraged to attend, listen and ask questions about the building, proposed to be built at the site of the current Lingle Legion Post No. 63, located at 229 Main St., along with the renovation of an existing, adjacent facility at 237 Main St.

• The next council meeting will be 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 4 at Lingle Town Hall.
