TORRINGTON – The cremains of Donald W. Pitmon will be buried during an informal, graveside service at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 15, 2017, at Valley View Cemetery here. Attendees are asked to bring a story or memory to share.
Mr. Pitmon died March 10, 2017, at Callahan Court Nursing Home and Memory Care Facility in Roseburg, Ore. He moved to Oregon with his wife, Pat, who survives, in 2008.
Mr. Pitmon was born Sept. 20, 1934, in Doniphan, Mo., to Sol and Clara Pitmon. The family moved to Torrington in 1946 and he graduated high school here in 1952. Mr. Pitmon worked part-time for the Torrington Telegram while he was in high school, moving to full time for a number of years after graduation.
He moved to Denver, Colo., in the late 1950s, owning and operating a printing business and TV and household appliance sales business there. While in business, and into his retirement, Mr. Pitmon was active in his community, including: Membership in the Bloomfield, Colo., Chamber of Commerce; the West Adams County Volunteer Fire Department, where he was honored for 20 years service, and; volunteer service with the Food Shelf food bank in the greater Denver area.
He also volunteered as a Santa Clause to the delight of area children for many Christmas seasons, drove test model cars, including the PT Cruiser, and drove a transport van, ferrying seniors and others with physical limitation to and from medical appointments.
In addition to his wife of almost 23 years, Pat, Mr. Pitmon is survived by two sons, Jerry (Judi ) Tollefson, of Clearwater, Minn., and Robin (Judy) Tollefson of Fargo, N.D.; grandchildren Christopher Tollefson of Fargo and Toni Ann Tollefson of Moorehead, Minn.; sister Glenda (Rick) Birdsall of Greeley, Colo.; brothers Robert (Joann) Pitmon of Berthoud, Colo., and Lawrence PItmon of Cheyenne; four step-children, Ellen Roos, Cindy Bratton, Rob Davis and Wenona Turner, all of Oregon, and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death wer his parents, Sol and Clara Pitmon, and a brother, Bill (Wanda) Pitmon. Wanda Pitmon survives in Las Vegas, Nevada.
