Doggers split to end regular season

PINE BLUFFS – The Lingle-Fort Laramie High School boys’ basketball team split to end their 2019-20 regular season over the weekend.

On Friday, the Doggers traveled to Glenrock and knocked off the Herders 61-53.

Trailing 14-10 after one quarter, the Doggers outscored Glenrock 16-9 to take a 26-23 lead into the break.

In the third quarter, the teams played even, scoring 14 points apiece. In the fourth, the Doggers dropped 21 points on Glenrock as L-FL pulled away for their 15th win of the season.

The Doggers shot 46% from the floor, led by a double-double from senior Caeden Riley, who scored 29 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Senior Bailey Powell added 13 points. Junior Cooper Hill tallied seven steals.

The next day, the Doggers fell to the Pine Bluffs Hornets, 75-65.

Pine Bluffs grabbed a 17-12 lead after one quarter. The Hornets kept L-FL at bay over the final three quarters, slowly pulling away, handing the Doggers a 10-point.

For the second straight night, Lingle-Fort Laramie shot 46%, led by Riley, who tallied another double-double with 27 points and 14 rebounds. Junior Cordell Forkner added 22 points. Powell tallied a team-high six assists.

The Doggers now turn their attention to the Class 1A East Regional Tournament in Douglas, where they are the top seed. L-FL opened postseason on Thursday against NSI Academy. The tournament wraps up Saturday.
