WHEATLAND – The Lingle-Fort Laramie boys track team finished seventh and the girls took fifth at the Wheatland Invitational on Tuesday.
“Tuesday was a great day for Dogger track,” coach Mike Lashley said. “Rather than loading up our athletes in many events, we downsized and focused on getting quality performances in fewer events.
The Lady Doggers narrowly edged out Lusk for the fifth slot as a team, amassing 52 points. Pine Bluffs took the girls’ team title with 100 points. The LFL boys racked up 43 points, just behind Lusk’s 47. Glenrock won the boys’ field with 79 points, just ahead of Torrington’s 76.
Georgia Wollert was the only Lady Dogger to reach the top of the podium and she did it twice. In the 200-meter dash, Wollert clocked a time of 27.40 seconds, earning her the top spot. She also dominated the 100-meter hurdles, taking first with a time of 17.25 seconds.
Kaylynn Jefferson was the second-best sprinter for the LFL girls, finishing fourth in the 100-meter dash (13.80 seconds). Jade Cooper (24th) and Kalli Nichol (27th) both competed in the 100.
Jenny Manus was the best Lady Dogger distance runner, taking fifth in the 1600-meter run (6:22.74) and eighth in the 3200-meter run (14:30.36). Cora Frederick was three spots behind Manus in both the mile (eighth, 6:44.17) and two-mile (11th, 14:50.51). In the 800-meter run, Jenna Kaufman took sixth with a time of 2:48.83.

Outside of Wollert’s gold in the 100-meter hurdles, Kaylan Maez and Makenna Greenwald rounded out the hurdlers for the Lady Doggers. Maez took eighth in the 100-meter hurdles (18.50 seconds) and fifth in the 300-meter hurdles (54.11 seconds), while Greenwald took fourth in the longer hurdles with a time of 53.43 seconds.
The Lady Doggers fielded two relay teams, with the 400-meter squad taking second with a time of 57.76 seconds and the 1600-meter team capturing seventh in 4:51.45.
In the high jump, Wollert cleared 5 feet to take second. Jordyn Gaspers finished eighth in the high jump, clearing 4 feet, 2 inches. Greenwald finished sixth in the long jump with a 14-foot, 2.5-inch effort. Nichol took 29th in the long jump. Gaspers had the best finish for the Lady Doggers in the triple jump (ninth, 27 feet, 11 inches) with Jade Cooper not far behind (15th, 26 feet, 7 inches). Greenwald cleared 7 feet, 3 inches in the pole vault to finish ninth.
Savannah Mirich was the best thrower for the LFL girls in both the shot put (ninth, 29 feet, 9.5 inches) and discus (14th, 81 feet, 5 inches). In the shot put, Paige Forkner (16th), Rhylea Horejs (34th) and Shelly Ann Sorrick (46th) all gave it a go. The trio finished in the same order in the discus, with Forkner taking 20th, Horejs finishing 41st and Sorrick sliding into 49th.
Like Wollert, Justice Madayag earned gold twice in Wheatland. He broke the LFL high jump record, clearing 6 feet, 3.25 inches. In the long jump, Madayag launched himself 19 feet, 3 inches to take first.
In other field events, Taylor Wagner finished third in the pole vault, clearing 11 feet, 3 inches. Ty Mueller cleared 17 feet, 1 inch in the long jump to finish seventh.
Dagan Davis paced the Doggers in the shot put (25th, 34 feet, 2 inches) and discus (eighth, 105 feet, 9 inches). Behind Davis, Elias Dodson recorded a throw of 31 feet, 6 inches in the shot put (35th) and Rayden Alonzo’s throw of 28 feet earned him 51st. Dodson also took 55th in the discus.
Mueller’s success in the field events carried over to the track, where he took second in the 200-meter dash in his career debut in the event with a time of 23.07 seconds. Hayden Hill captured 21st in the same event (26.17 seconds). Before heading to the Wyoming Track Classic in Casper, Landen Fuller raced in the 100-meter dash for the first time in his career, finishing third with a time of 11.65. The Doggers return to the track Saturday for the SEWAC Invitational in Pine Bluffs.
“The SEWAC meet this Saturday is shaping up to be extremely competitive,” Lashley said. “We will need to be performing at a high level to bring home conference championships.”
