GREYBULL – The Lingle-Fort Laramie High School football team capped off the 2020 season with a 40-34 double overtime victory over the Greybull Buffaloes last Friday.

Dogger senior quarterback Cooper Hill accounted for all five of Lingle’s touchdowns, including the go-ahead score in the extra period.

The Lingle offense nearly doubled Greybull’s, outgaining them 436 yards to 222.

Each team scored in the first 10 minutes of the game, but the difference in the score was from the Buffaloes successful two-point conversion to give the home team an 8-6 advantage after 12 minutes.

In the second quarter, Hill rushed for a 1-yard score and connected with senior Ty Prall for a 9-yard completion.

Greybull managed to score six more points of its own, but the Doggers held a 21-14 lead at the break.

In the third quarter, the Buffaloes scored twice – one the ground and through the air – while Hill raced 16 yards for the score.

Heading to the fourth quarter, the teams were knotted at 28 apiece.

Over the final 12 minutes neither team was able to find the end zone, but the Doggers had an opportunity to close out the game in the final minute of play.

Lingle had driven down to the Greybull 12-yard line, but Prall missed a field goal wide right from the left hash on fourth down.

That sent the game into overtime.

Both teams scored in the first overtime, but in the second overtime, the Doggers recovered a fumble, and Hill put an exclamation point to the season with a 10-yard run for the game-winning touchdown.

When the final horn sounded, Prall led the L-FL with 263 yards rushing on 17 carries, while Hill added 113 yards on 36 attempts. Hill was also 2-for-4 passing for 45 yards, and Prall hauled in both receptions.

Defensively, senior Dustin Swartwood led the team with 27 points, including 10 assisted tackles, three solo stops, two sacks and a fumble recovery. Senior Jessy Valentine and Hill added 15 defensive points each. Valentine led the team with 11 assisted tackles, and Hill had a sack.

Despite the win, the Doggers did not qualify for the Class 1A 9-Man playoffs and see their season come to a close with a 3-5 record.
