Doggers of First Quarter named

LINGLE – Grit. A word with value extending beyond the walls of any classroom or school, but that is developed throughout a student’s academic and athletic career.

Lingle-Ft. Laramie High School recently held its first quarter awards assembly for the 2018-19 school year, naming Doggers of the Quarter recipients, junior Bridgette Lowther and sophomore Jessy Valentine.

Both are students the faculty and staff at LFL believe exhibit the qualities of grit.

Bridgette, daughter of Arthur and Trisha Lowther, is a member of the school’s FBLA organization, soccer and indoor track teams, and 4-H.

When asked what grit meant to her, Bridgette said, “It’s standing up, being strong, and working through things.”

Bridgette embraces all of these characteristics. When she was recognized, she said she was shocked because “the school has so many people who could or should get the award.”

Bridgette is soft-spoken and quiet, so she doesn’t see herself as a role-model. But her hard work and tenacity are exhibited in her work ethic and Dogger spirit. Bridgette is thankful for the support and encouragement of her parents, teachers, and closest friends in becoming the delightful young lady she is today.

Jessy, the youngest son of Tony and Sam Valentine, was surprised when his name was called and he was awarded the honor of Dogger of the Quarter. Jessy believes that being a Dogger is taking pride in his education and showing that on and off the field. He is a member of the football and wrestling teams, and takes his education seriously.

Jessy described his views, saying, “My dad has always told me to grit my teeth and fight through the tough stuff.”

Jessy has used that advice and applied it to his life. Jessy loves that he has a large family who are always there to support him. He expressed his gratitude for an extensive support network.

These two deserving students were selected by the faculty of L-FL and were recognized in front of the student body. They both exhibit the characteristics of hard work, determination, tenacity, and a willingness to fight through any obstacles that come their way, in the classroom, on the field, or competing on any stage put before them.
