SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. – Eight Lingle-Fort Laramie Doggers took the track Wednesday in the prestigious Best in the West Classic in Scottsbluff, Neb., finishing in the top-four twice.
Kaelyn Riley had the best finish for the Doggers, snagging third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.16 seconds. Also on the girls side, Jenna Kaufman finished sixth in the 800, clocking a time of 2:37.62. Kaufman was joined by Cora Frederick, Shelby Heilbrun and Jenny Manus for the 3200-meter relay, finishing eighth with a time of 11:34.23.
The Lady Doggers grabbed 10 points on the night to snag 18th, finishing just behind Kimball, Neb. (12) and Gordon-Rushville, Neb. (10.5). Host Scottsbluff won the girls team race with 99 points. Sidney, Neb. (78) just edged Gering, Neb. (76) for second.
Landen Fuller competed in two events for L-FL, starting with a fourth-place finish in the 400 with a time of 51.42 seconds. He also turned in a time of 23.51 seconds in the 200, earning fifth. Cole Shepardson rounded out the Dogger competitors, taking eighth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 43.20 seconds.
In the boys team race, L-FL amassed 10 points to slide into the 10th slot between Lusk’s 13.5 points and Garden County’s seven points. Scottsbluff won on the boys side as well with 131 points. Sidney, with 77 points, and Gering, with 58.5 points, rounded out the top three.
Select Doggers return to action Friday for the Wyoming Track Classic in Casper. The entire L-FL team will reconvene for the Dennis Zowada Invitational in Lusk on Saturday.
