SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. – The Lingle-Fort Laramie High School track and field teams opened the 2022 season at the Binfield Invite in Scottsbluff, Nebraska.
Despite competing against much larger schools, LFL coach Mike Lashley said the Doggers had a solid weekend.
“We placed well across the board,” he said. “This meet was a very good start to the season, and I was really proud of the effort we saw. Our young athletes were not intimidated at all.”
The Doggers set many personal records at the meet with a number of athletes prequalifying for May’s state meet in Casper.
The boys’ team saw five individuals – Slade Hopkins, Louden Bremer, Kyland Fuller, Myles Wilson, Boyd Oliver – over eight different events, plus the 4x400 relay team while the girls’ team had three individuals – Maddy Saul, Tiah Meyer and Brenly Shipp – and the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams already punch their tickets to state.
Fuller and Bremer picked up the team’s only individual wins of the day.
Fuller won the 400-meter dash in 51.54 seconds, as well as the 200-meter dash (no time given in the results).
Meanwhile, Bremer scored the win in the 300-meter hurdles in 42.96 seconds.
In the girls’ division, the 4x400 relay team of Shipp, Holly Leiseth, Emma Walker and Saul paced the team with a second-place finish in 4 minutes, 48 seconds.
“We also have some baseline performances now that will help us as we look to put our athletes in their strongest events,” Lashley said.
The Doggers travel to the Bayard, Nebraska for the Bayard CD Invite on Saturday. Field events get underway at 9 a.m.
“There will be 20 teams in attendance, so we will have some very stiff competition,” Lashley said. “It will be interesting to see how we finish as a team in a meet this large.”
