PINE BLUFFS – The Lingle-Fort Laramie boys track team won its second straight SEWAC championship, while the Lady Doggers finished fourth at the SEWAC Invitational in Pine Bluffs on Saturday.
The Doggers tallied up 123 team points, outdistancing Pine Bluffs, who had 93 points. Southeast just missed second in the boys’ team race, racking up 92 points.
“It was very special for the boys to earn back-to-back SEWAC Conference Championships,” coach Mike Lashley said. “We are a true track and field team, in that we can score quality points in every event. Most schools our size are unable to do that. Our depth also played a big part in our championship.”
In the triple jump, Justice Madayag and Ty Mueller demolished the competition. Madayag took first, clearing 43 feet, 0.5 inches, and Mueller snagged second with a 42-foot, 4.5-inch effort. Both of the Doggers’ jumps were more than a foot and a half further than the third-place finisher.
The two LFL boys continued to prove their success in the field events. Madayag cleared 19 feet, 8.5 inches in the long jump, while Mueller cleared 19 feet, 8 inches. The two took second and third. In the high jump, Madayag took third after getting over 6 feet. Taylor Wagner snagged sixth in the pole vault (11 feet, 5 inches).
Tyler Hunt paced the LFL throwers, capturing fifth in the shot put with a throw of 45 feet, 6 inches. Dagan Davis (13th, 36 feet, 2 inches) and Elias Dodson (15th, 33 feet, 11 inches) both set personal records in the shot put. Davis led the Doggers in the discus with a throw of 120 feet, 11 inches, earning him sixth. Hunt took ninth (106 feet, 10 inches) and Rayden Alonzo slid into 16th (56 feet, 10 inches).
Mueller had the best success on the track for the Doggers, earning gold in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.30 seconds. Hayden Hill (26.53 seconds) and Clay Colton (26.77 seconds) just missed the top-10, finishing 11th and 12th. In the 100-meter dash, Landen Fuller finished third with a time of 12.58 seconds. Hill and Colton finished 10th and 12th.
Rounding out the sprints, Fuller took second in the 400-meter dash, setting a personal record time of 51.41 seconds. Rhett Greenwald finished 12th in the 400 with a time of 1:00.93.
Fuller’s success carried to the 800-meter run, where he took the silver with a time of 2:06.78. Gaven Niles was not far behind, finishing fourth with a time of 2:14.03.
In the mile, Kelly Peterson, Scott Gilchriest and Alex Pugsley finished third through fifth, posting times of 5:23.18, 5:26.58 and 5:27.46. In the girls action, the Lady Doggers racked up 93 team points to finish fourth, just behind Niobrara County, who took third with 94 points. Pine Bluffs won the girls’ title with 148 points.
“I was especially proud of the girls’ squad,” Lashley said. “Scoring 93 points against larger competition is a great accomplishment. We got several PR’s and a couple more state qualifying marks on the girls’ side. These ladies just keep getting better and better.”

The Doggers return to the track for competitive action in the 1A East Regional Invitational on May 12-13 in Gillette.
