Disc golf, canoe races set at Chadron State Park

Posted

CHADRON, Neb. – Amateur disc golfers and canoeists are being invited to participate in fun competitions at Chadron State Park on Sunday, July 9.
As part of Chadron’s annual Fur Trade Days celebration, the park will be the site of the inaugural Disc Golf Challenge at 1 p.m., followed by the Kiwanis Fur Trade Regatta, the yearly canoe race, at 3 p.m. Each event will begin with registration at the shelter near the park’s lagoon 30 minutes prior to start.

The Disc Golf Challenge, a new event for Fur Trade Days, will challenge participants to get the top score on the park’s 18-basket course following a shotgun start. Participants are encouraged to bring their own discs, although some will be available for rental at the park’s Trading Post.
The Regatta, open to ages 12 and up, challenges teams of two to race one another on a lap around the park’s lagoon. Following the preliminaries, the racers with the top two times will square off against one another for the championship. Canoes and life vests will be provided. The park also will provide free paddleboat rides before and after the canoe races.
Entry to the canoe races and disc golf tournament is free and prizes will be awarded to the winners. Donations to the Chadron Kiwanis Club, which serves children’s causes in the community, will be collected.
Nebraska park entry permits are required for vehicles. They may be purchased online at outdoornebraska.org or at the park’s entrance.
