TORRINGTON – The Dale Jones Municipal Pool opened for the summer on Friday, May 28. On the beautiful, 72-degree day, the line to get in curved around the corner and down the sidewalk.
So far this summer, the pool has been a popular spot. Assistant Manager Brooklyn Tucker said there have typically been 125 to 168 people each day. The maximum capacity of the pool is 168, according to Tucker.
She encourages the use of sunscreen, saying, “we have had a lot of kids get really burnt already this year.”
From Monday to Friday, hours for open swim and night swim are 1:30 to 5 p.m. and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Daily admission is $3 per person and free for three-year-olds and younger.
Aerobics and lap swim are scheduled for 5:30 to 6:30 a.m. and 5 to 6:30 p.m. Admission for lap swim and aerobics is $4 per person. Co-instructor Carolyn Lewis encourages people of all ages to participate.
“We do exercises that tone the whole body,” Lewis said. She also encourages people who might be interested to call her with any questions, at 307-532-7364.
The pool is reserved for the swim team from 6:30 to 8 a.m.
The pool’s only activity on the weekends is open swim from 1 to 5 p.m.
There are six sessions for swimming lessons this summer – June 7-11, June 14-18, June 21-25, June 28-July 2, July 12-16 and July 19-23.
Lessons occur from 8 to 11 a.m., with private lessons from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. A week session is $30 per person.
