Cyclones take third, Lady Cyclones fifth in SEWAC Invite

Cyclones take third, Lady Cyclones fifth in SEWAC Invite

PINE BLUFFS – The Southeast Cyclones’ 92 points were one point shy of taking second, while the girls racked up 43 points for fifth on Saturday at the SEWAC Invitational conference finals tournament in Pine Bluffs.
Chase Lovercheck earned all-conference in two separate events, taking first in the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.61 seconds and first in the 800-meter dash with a time of 2:05.96.
Jacob Schmitt joined Lovercheck in the top-eight in both the 400, taking fifth (54.83 seconds), and the 800, taking third (2:13.76). Also in the 400-meter dash, Brady Fullmer snagged sixth with a time of 55.50 seconds. Wyatt Lackman took 10th in the half-mile, finishing in 2:39.01.
Jacob Cushman also earned all-conference honors after taking the top spot in the 100-meter dash, clocking a time of 12.30 seconds. Fullmer (fourth) and Connor Humphrey (fifth) were not far behind, posting times of 12.92 and 12.94 seconds. In the 200-meter dash, Porter Ross paced the Cyclones, finishing second with a time of 23.85 seconds. Cushman finishing in 24.92 seconds to take fifth and Humphrey finished eighth with a time of 25.09 seconds.
Rounding out the distance events, Patrick Swank earned second in the 3200-meter run with a time of 12:24.20. Alexzander Ramirez finished 13th in the mile, clocking a time of 6:14.31.
Cushman, Fullmer, Humphrey and Ross linked up for the 400-meter relay, finishing first with a time of 45.08 seconds, earning all-conference recognition. Lovercheck joined the trio of Cushman, Fullmer and Humphrey for the 1600-meter relay, where they finished third (3:41.35). Lackman, Swank, Schmitt and D.J. Homer ran the 3200-meter relay, taking fourth with a time of 10:50.37.
Quinton Steinbock set a personal record in the high jump, clearing 5 feet, 10 inches to earn fourth. Chance Werner also took fourth with a personal record, but in the triple jump, clearing 38 feet, 11.5 inches. Greg Logsdon was not far behind, finishing 10th with a jump of 30 feet, 11.75 inches.

In the long jump, Ross paced the Cyclones, taking sixth with a jump of 18 feet, 1.75 inches. Werner was just an inch behind Ross, finishing seventh with a jump of 18 feet, 0.75 inches. Logsdon slid into 13th with a jump of 13 feet, 11 inches.
Hunter Woodruff was the best thrower for the Cyclones, finishing 13th in both the shot put (36 feet, 2 inches) and discus (88 feet, 9 inches). Swank (30 feet, 7 inches) and Luke Haas (29 feet, 8 inches) finished back-to-back in the shot put, taking 17th and 18th.
Pine Bluffs, who finished second with 93 points, narrowly edged out the Cyclones’ 92 points. The Lingle-Fort Laramie Doggers took the boys’ title with 123 points.
Jayden Hopkins had the best individual finish for the Lady Cyclones, finishing second in the 1600-meter run with a time of 6:19.64. Kelci Lovercheck was not far behind, clocking a time of 6:23.59 to earn fourth.
In the sprints, Hailey Anderson paced the Southeast girls, taking fourth in the 400-meter dash (1:05.28) and fifth in the 200-meter dash (29.03 seconds). Ellie Schmitt snagged sixth in the 400 with a time of 1:09.85 and Emily Buchanan earned seventh in the 200 with a time of 29.76 seconds.
Kendall Haas was the only Lady Cyclone to compete in the hurdles, taking eighth in the 100-meter with a time of 19.70 seconds and 11th in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 57.91 seconds.
Buchanan, Hopkins, Lovercheck and Schmitt joined forces for the 3200-meter relay, earning all-conference honors with a winning time of 10:57.42. Anderson, Buchanan, Schmitt and Lovercheck clocked a time of 4:38.66 in the 1600-meter relay to take fourth.
Schmitt took sixth in the high jump after clearing 4 feet, 6 inches. Haas launched herself 13 feet, 9.25 inches in the long jump to take seventh. Buchanan’s 29-foot, 2.75-inch effort in the triple jump earned her eighth.
Kylie Carson had the best day in the throwing events for the Lady Cyclones. She snagged third in the discus with a personal record throw of 98 feet, 9 inches. Candee Coxbill was not far behind, taking fifth with a throw of 94 feet, 8 inches. Morgan Ekwall recorded a throw of 77 feet, 2 inches, which put her 13th.
Kaci Schmick paced the Lady Cyclones in the shot put, snagging sixth with a personal record throw of 31 feet, 7 inches. Ekwall (29 feet, 10 inches) and Carson (29 feet, 5 inches) finished back-to-back, earning 10th and 11th.
The Lady Cyclones combined for 43 team points to take fifth, edging out Glenrock’s 35 points. Pine Bluffs won the girls’ team title with 148 points.
Southeast returns to competitive action for the 2A East Regional Invitational in Gillette on May 12-13.
