Cyclones sixth and 2-3 at Southeast Duals

YODER – The Southeast Cyclones went 2-3 in team duals Saturday at the Southeast Duals on their way to a sixth-place finish.

Windsor 52, Southeast 30

Starting action in Pool D, the Cyclones suffered a loss to Windsor. Honorary Cyclone Colten Tyner (Burns/Pine Bluffs) kicked off the action at 220 with a loss via pin. Windsor picked up a forfeit at 285, before Jake Trusty pinned Kaden Brothwell at the 5:19-mark.

Greg Logsdon (113) recorded a forfeit win. At 120, Brock Blevins was pinned in the first period against Vance Vombaur. Wyatt Lackman won via forfeit at 126 pounds, before a trio of honorary Cyclones, all from Sidney, Neb., took the mat. Devan Schilz (132) lost by a 14-2 major decision. Riley Christensen (138) and Angelo Revercomb (145) both suffered losses via pin, with Christensen’s coming in the first period and Revercomb succumbing to a pin in the second.

Returning to Cyclones in action, 152-pounder Chase Lovercheck lost by pin in the second period, followed by a loss at 160 pounds by Brady Tosh, a pin in the first. Connor Smith (170), Tate Carson (182) and Bryan Baker (195) all recorded forfeit wins, but it wasn’t enough for the Cyclones to make up the difference.

Southeast 51, Gordon-Rushville 23

Heavyweight Hunter Woodruff kicked things off to open the dual against Gordon-Rushville with a forfeit win, followed by a pin in the first period by Logsdon over Armando Valdez (Alliance). Brothwell took the mat at 113 pounds and was pinned in the first by Matt Hood. Blevins recorded a forfeit win at 120.

Lackman was pinned at the 3:02-mark by Quin Child. Schilz picked up a 7-0 decision win for the Cyclones, before Christensen lost in a 15-0 technical fall. Revercomb recorded a forfeit win and Lovercheck pinned Conner Halverson in the second period. Tosh kept the winning going for Southeast by pinning fellow Cyclone Ethan Steinhausen in the first period.

Smith suffered a loss via pin against Zane Hamilton Harris. In Carson’s first match of the day, he pinned Cade Griffitt (Glenrock) in 58 seconds. Baker won via forfeit and neither team had a 220-pouner.

Glenrock 55, Southeast 24

Logsdon kicked off the dual against Glenrock in convincing fashion with a pin over Josie Bruno in 15 seconds. Tate Stoddard pinned Blevins in the first period before Dustin Simmons pinned Lackman in the first. T.J. Kraft continued the winning for the Herders with a forfeit win.

Schilz put the Cyclones back on the board by pinning Adrian Mass in the third period. Glenrock’s Brysen Collier pinned Christensen in the first period and Zane Moore beat Revercomb in a 12-3 major decision. Lovercheck went the distance against Isak Elisson but lost in an 8-6 decision. Tosh recorded a win for Southeast win a pin over Corden Phillips in the second period. Smith and Carson suffered back-to-back losses, with Noah Halsey and Ian Arnold recording pins in the first period.

Baker secured a win via pin late in the second period against Josh Burrus. Tyner lost via pin in the first period against Jadon Williams. Woodruff took the mat against Elias Orozco, but lost due to an injury in the second period.

Southeast 47, Mitchell 36

With a 1-2 record in pool play, the Cyclones were put into the fifth-place bracket. Brothwell got things kicked off against the Tigers win a win by forfeit, before Blevins continued the winning by pinning Mac Palomo late in the first period. Lackman was pinned in the second period against Jake Chasek.

Mitchell’s Justin Chasek was disqualified for an illegal throw against Schilz. Christensen was pinned in the second period and Revercomb was pinned in the first. Lovercheck racked up six more points for Southeast with a forfeit win, followed by a 19-4 technical fall win by Tosh over Marcus Carrillo. Smith was pinned in the first period against Drake Gilliland.

Carson and Baker both won their matches by forfeit. Tyner was pinned in the first period against Nathan Coley, before Nicholas Coley won by forfeit against the Cyclones. Logsdon closed out the match with a pin at the 3:37-mark against Hadley Markowski.

Bridgeport 51, Southeast 30

In the fifth-place dual, Bridgeport got the better of the Cyclones. Southeast started with 12-straight points with Blevins and Lackman winning by forfeit, before Trevor Widener won a forfeit match for Bridgeport. Christensen lost in a 7-1 decision against Jerzie Menke, before Revercomb picked up a pin over Damien Bell in the first period.

Lovercheck recorded another forfeit win before Bridgeport went on a winning streak. Tosh was pinned in the second period by Nathaniel Cooper and Smith suffered the same fate against Charles Lange. Carson was pinned by Logan Coalson and Baker was pinned by Marce Vasquez, both in the first period.

Tyner was pinned in the first period, continuing Bridgeport’s winning, followed by a forfeit win in the heavyweight division. Brothwell took the mat at 106, falling in the first period against Casey Benavides. Logsdon closed out the dual with a forfeit win.

Southeast returns to the mat this weekend to compete at the Carbon County Invite. The action at Hanna-Elk Mountain is slated for both Saturday and Sunday. This weekend is the last of the regular season, with the regional tournament schedule for next Saturday in Burns.
