Cyclones complete weekend sweep at Glenrock

YODER – The Southeast High School boys’ basketball team pulled off a home win over Moorcroft on Thursday and a road victory over Glenrock on Saturday.

On Thursday, it took the Cyclones three-plus quarters to finally put away the Moorcroft Wolves in a 49-31 win.

“We shot poorly. As good as we shot in Lusk, we shot as bad (Thursday),” Cyclone coach Crockett Herring said. “It’s going to happen. They are high school kids. Plus, we’ve had the touch of the flu going around.”

Neither team really held a lead larger than three until the closing seconds of the third quarter.

Leading 29-26, sophomore Cord Herring found the bottom of the net to give the Cyclones a five-point advantage heading into the final eight minutes.

“We were flat. That was all there was too it,” Crockett Herring said. “It took three and a half quarters before we got a little spurt. It was just one of those games.”

Cord’s bucket sparked an 11-1 Southeast run as the Cyclones took control with a 42-27 lead with three minutes to go in the game.

Junior Bodie Herring led the team with 12 points, while juniors Hayden and Sawyer Anderson added 10 points each. Hayden also pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds.

“It was very flat on both ends,” Crockett Herring said.

Southeast shot 36 percent from the floor and 20 percent from beyond the 3-point line.

“I think with the energy level, we are going to have to refocus to make sure we are ready to play the next game,” Crockett Herring said. “Maybe we’ll come out with a little more energy and persistence.”

That’s exactly what Southeast did in a 67-46 road win over the Glenrock Herders on Saturday.

The Cyclones raced out to a 22-1 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Southeast pushed its lead to 55-28 heading to the final quarter of action.

Hayden Anderson led the team with 23 points and eight rebounds. Senior Patrick Swank and Cord Herring added 10 points each, while Bodie Herring added nine.

The Cyclones (12-4 overall and 2-1 2A Southeast Quad) travel to Lingle to face the Lingle-Fort Laramie Doggers (10-5) on Thursday. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
