Cyclones gets two wins at Cheyenne East’s Okie Blanchard

CHEYENNE – The Southeast High School track and field teams traveled to Cheyenne East’s annual Okie Blanchard Invite on Friday.

Southeast came away with two wins on the day. The wins came courtesy of Jordan Stoddard and Shelby Ekwall.

Stoddard won the high jump event at a height of 5 feet, 4 inches, while Ekwall won shot put with a toss of 38-7 to win the event by more than two feet. Brenna Herring finished ninth in the event with a throw of 30-11.

Ekwall also finished sixth in discus at 94-5, while Stoddard also picked up a pair of runner-up finishes in long jump at 18-6.5 and in the 200-meter dash in 26.25 seconds.

In other events, Sasha Haines finished eighth in the 400-meter dash in 1 minute, 07.78 seconds, while Kailey Porter finished 11th in the 800-meter run.

In the 100-meter hurdles, Taylor Hanson placed 12th.

In relay action, the 4x100 team of Baylie Booth, Sasha Haines, Hanson and Angie Logsdon placed sixth in 56.31 seconds, while the sprint medley relay team of Haines, Booth, Grace Desmond and Hanson finished fourth in 5:21.14.

In other field events, Desmond finished sixth in triple jump at 31-8.5, while Logsdon placed seventh in pole vault, clearing 7-8.

The Lady Cyclones, the lone Class 1A school at the meet, finished sixth with 53 points. Cheyenne Central won the event with 137 points, while Torrington was second

In the boys’ division, the Cyclones picked up a pair of runner-up finishes at the meet.

Ryan Clapper and the 4x100-meter relay team led the way for the Southeast boys in Cheyenne.

Clapper finished second in the 100-meter dash in 10.83 seconds, while Wyatt Campbell placed eighth. Clapper and Campbell made up one half of 4x100 relay, along with Grant Logsdon and Austin Short. They finished second in 44.74 seconds.

Campbell also finished seventh in the 200-meter dash, while Kirk Kay came home 11th in the 400-meter dash in 1:00.25 seconds.

In other relay action, the sprint medal relay team of Matthew Chapman, Wyatt Gladson, Kannon Tippetts and Andrew Sarber finished fourth in 4:47.96.

In field events, Logsdon and Dawson Mullock scored the only team points of the day.

Logsdon finished eighth in pole vault, clearing 10-3, while Mullock also finished eighth in long jump with a leap of 19-8.

Cole Sauer ended up 11th in high jump at 5-2, while Short finished 13th in triple jump with a distance of 36-10.

As a team, the Cyclones finished eighth with 26 points. Cheyenne Central won the team title with 161 points, while Cheyenne East was second with 121 points.

Southeast is back in action Thursday in Burns.
