Cyclone boys defend home floor

YODER – The Southeast Cyclones boys’ basketball team put up 35 points in the second half to cruise to a 62-49 win over Glenrock on Saturday, but could only come up with a 19 points in the second half on Thursday in a 37-31 loss against Burns.

The Cyclones got off to a slow start against the Herders, facing a 15-11 deficit after the first quarter. By halftime, the game was tied at 27. After halftime, Southeast racked up 35 points to Glenrock’s 22 to cruise to the 13-point win.
Brady Fuller led the Cyclones in scoring, with 18 points. He shot 6-of-10 from the field and also had six points from the free-throw line. Fullmer tied for the team-lead in boards, with seven, to go along with an assist, two steals and a block.

Jacob Schmitt and Dalton Keller also scored in the double-digits, with 14 and 10 points, respectively. The two combined for 8-of-16 shooting and eight points from the charity stripe. Keller led Southeast in assists, with five. Keller and Schmitt combined for six boards, three steals and a block. Sterling Werner tied for the team-lead in boards, with seven. He added five points to his stat line.
Southeast shot 46 percent from the field on Saturday. The Cyclones were sent to the line for 37 free-throw attempts and they nailed 23 of them. As a team, Southeast outrebounded the Herders 29-22. The Cyclones also had 15 assists, which was 12 more than Glenrock.

Southeast again got off to a slow start, scoring only 12 points in the first half against Burns. At intermission, the Cyclones were down 16-12. Southeast outscored Burns 11-10 in the third quarter, but gave up 11 points in the fourth, compared to the eight points the Cyclones put up.
Sterling Werner and Fullmer led the Cyclones in scoring, with six points each. They both hit two shots from inside the arc and two free throws. The two combined for five rebounds, three steals and an assist.
Chance Werner had five points and Connor Humphrey chipped in four. Chance Werner had six rebounds, an assist and a steal. Humphrey led the Cyclones in steals, with three. Schmitt topped the list in rebounds, with nine, to go along with his three points and a steal.
The Cyclones currently stand at 8-7 overall and 2-1 in the conference. Southeast hosted to Mitchell, Neb., on Tuesday after press deadline. The Cyclones return to the hardwood against Lingle-Fort Laramie on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. They also play 2A’s top-ranked Pine Bluffs on Friday at 6 p.m.
