TORRINGTON – In late September, the Telegram reported Torrington High School senior Ethan Creagar was amongst approximately 16,000 semifinalists
nationwide in the 63rd annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Earlier this month, Creagar made the cut once more and is now officially a finalist.
Torrington High School Principal “Mr. Cooper told me that I made it – that I got past the semifinals,” Creagar said. “I was a lot more surprised this time than I was last time. I had to write an essay and take the SAT (in order to qualify), and based on those things, I didn’t really expect to progress.”
Initially, Creagar was required to take the preliminary SAT and meet specific standards to be considered as a semifinalist. He scored within the 99th percentile on the college-entrance exam. In October, Creagar submitted an essay and completed the actual SAT to qualify as a finalist, a feat which was announced this month.
