

County 7 Clay Busters third at state
TORRINGTON – On Saturday, June 24, kids from 15 schools from around the state of Wyoming converged on the Goshen County Sportsman Club for the Wyoming State High School Clay Target League State Championships.
When the smoke cleared, it was Cheyenne East High School taking the state championship with a team score of 472. Wheatland was second with 451, while the County 7 Clay Busters were third with 449.
Other teams taking part in the event included Buffalo, Burns, Campbell County, Hulett, Lyman, Niobrara County, Pine Bluffs, Riverside, Sundance, Thunder Basin, Upton and Wright.
The trio of William Knowlton, Remington Matson and Brett Gara led the team in the varsity male division. All three finished the day with 91 to finish tied for ninth.
Lillian Jurek led the junior varsity female division with a 13th-place finish with a score of 55, while in the novice division, Boden Prall placed fifth with 74 and Gaige McFarlin tied for sixth with 73.
Brett Gara, Remington Mathson and Connor Moody were the only trio from the County 7 Clay Busters to hit 25 straight.
On a day when the wind increased throughout the day, only Bryce Humphrey of Cheyenne East reached 50 straight.
