Cooper to step down as THS principal

TORRINGTON – After two years as principal at Torrington High School, Cedric Cooper is leaving the Cowboy State and headed east, to take the reins as principal of Schoo Middle School in Lincoln, Neb.

During his time with Goshen County School District No. 1, Cooper told the Telegram he has most enjoyed interacting with students.

“I absolutely love working with the students,” he said. “It is the highlight of my day. To watch students grow into young adults is exhilarating.”

Cooper added he is proud of his students’ success.

“I am proud that the staff was able to recognize students for their accomplishments,” he said. “Also, the school meeting annual yearly progress (AYP) for the first time in a long time. It was a total school effort.”

As Schoo Middle School principal, Cooper said he is looking forward to engaging and inspiring staff and students.

“I look forward to getting to know the students, staff, and community in my new district,” he said. “When you are new to a district, there is always a sense of ‘Who is this person?’ and ‘What do they bring to the table?’ It is an exciting time to engage and inspire people, because you have the attention of everyone as being the unknown. It is the perfect platform to be able to increase collaboration and to learn.

“When I first arrived in Torrington, I was a middle school assistant principal,” Cooper continued. “The middle school is a crucial time for students to have exposure to their potential career aspirations prior to going to high school. I really enjoyed working with an eager and exciting group of younger students. It will be nice to revert back to that age group and work to be impactful at that level.”

In all, Cooper said he and his family appreciate their time spent in Goshen County.

“My family and I are grateful for the support the stakeholders of this community (have) provided us.” he said. “We appreciate the generosity of everyone. I hope that I was able to make a difference in this community. I have attempted to model how to love, have empathy, show compassion, and continuous support for our students.

“This community provided me an opportunity to be a leader, and Torrington will always have a special place in my heart.”
