TORRINGTON – The Friendship Senior Center in Torrington, in association with AARP, will offer the group’s Smart Driver Course, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 24 at the senior center in Torrington.

Black Thunder trip reset

TORRINGTON – The Eastern Wyoming College Community Education office has announced it has rescheduled a trip to the Black Thunder Mine in northeastern Wyoming for Wednesday, Sept. 27.

The trip, originally set for Friday, Sept. 15, was postponed due to weather.

The bus will depart EWC at 7 a.m. and return at approximately 6 p.m. Cost is $35 and includes lunch at the Hay Creek Golf Club in Wright.

Free concert

TORRINGTON – North Hills and SONrise Church will host a free, back-to-school concert starting at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, at Pioneer Park on West D
Street here.

Performing will be Lincoln, Neb.-based Christian rock band VOTA with special guests Foreverlin. 

The concert is for all students in junior and senior high school and features free food and music.

Community Hospital celebrates 40 years

TORRINGTON – Community members are invited to Torrington Community Hospital for a 40-year anniversary celebration from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 28, at 2000 Campbell Drive.

The event will include a re-dedication of the facility by CEO Shelby Nelson, as well as hospital tours and refreshments.

Balloon Fest photo exhibit opens

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. – The public is invited to an opening reception for the Old West Balloon Fest photography exhibit, from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the West Nebraska Arts Center, 106 E. 18th St., in Scottsbluff.

The exhibit “highlights the artistic value of the photographic medium with the purpose of celebrating and promoting the event,” according to a press release. 

Brad Staman of Gering, editor of the Scottsbluff Star-Herald, served as juror for the exhibit.

The exhibit will remain on view through Sunday, Oct. 29. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday – Friday and 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Gallery admission is free.

Pet vaccination clinic set

TORRINGTON – The Veterinary Technology Club at Eastern Wyoming College will host a pet vaccination clinic this month in conjunction with Waggin’ Tails Animal Shelter.

The clinic is set from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30 at the shelter, 980 W 11th Ave., in Torrington. The clinic will operate on a walk-in only basis, with no appointment necessary.

Club members will offer rabies vaccinations for $10, five-way canine vaccinations for $10 and feline five-way for $10. In addition, students will offer nail trimming for $5 and microchipping
for $20.

Riverside hosts Halloween events

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. – Riverside Zoo and Discovery Center is hosting a pair of “spook-tacular” events through the month of October.

It’s two floors of terror with the third annual Night at the Haunted Museum at the Riverside Discovery Center. The thrills run from 7 to 10 p.m. nightly, Oct. 6-7, Oct. 13-14 and Oct. 27-31.

Admission is $10 per person and concessions and t-shirts will be available on site. Haunted Museum t-shirts will also be available at the Zoo gift shop, earning $1 off the Haunted Museum admission. The Haunted Museum is ADA accessible at half price.

Also on deck is the 29th annual Spooktacular, this year bigger and better than ever. The family-friendly event runs 6:30 to 8 p.m. nightly, Oct. 20-25, and admission is $7
per person.

Homeless Collaborative to host conference

CHEYENNE – The Wyoming Homeless Collaborative will host the 2017 “Time to Heal” Conference on Homelessness, Oct. 3 and 4, at the Radisson Hotel, 204 West Fox Farm
in Cheyenne. 

Breakout session topics will include substance abuse and recovery, homeless youth, law enforcement/department of corrections, rural homelessness, homeless with pets, housing vouchers, ESG/Coordinated entry and healthcare. 

Guest speakers will include Gov. Matt Mead and former University of Wyoming football standout and professional athlete, Derrick Martin.

Flu clinics set

GOSHEN COUNTY – Public health officials have announced several flu inoculation clinics set for October around
the county.

Prime flu season in the state starts in late December and continues through May. Goshen County Public Health has the most current, quadravalent flu vaccines in stock, which may prevent infection or reduce the risk of complications if people do get sick.

Flu clinics will be:

• Monday, Oct. 2 – 10:30 – 11 a.m. at LaGrange Senior Center; 1 – 2 p.m. at Yoder Senior Center;

• Tuesday, Oct. 3 – 9 – 11 a.m. at Lingle Senior Center; 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. at Ft. Laramie Senior Center;

• Thursday, Oct. 5 – 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Torrington Senior Center, and;

• Friday, Oct. 6 – Goshen County Public Health.

Open clinics will be offered from 8 –10 am. At the Goshen County Public Health office, 2025 Campbell Drive, Suite No. 1, in Torrington, as vaccine is available.

Medicare recipients are requested to bring their cards with them when receiving vaccination. Costs of inoculations not billed to Medicare is $30, payable at time of service. Receipts will be given, which may be turned in to insurance carrier or employer.

Something for everyone

TORRINGTON – First Wyoming United Presbyterian Church in Torrington will host its fall rummage sale, Friday and Saturday, Oct. 13 – 14, at the church, located at 2972 Main Street.

Hours are 8 a.m. to noon on Friday and 8 to 11 a.m. on Saturday. The event is hosted by the Presbyterian Women group at the church.
