Discussion group invites public

TORRINGTON – The Political Discussion Group of the Goshen County Democratic Women invites interested area women to a series of round-table meetings.

GCDW has organized the sessions to discuss local, state and national issues. The next meetings will be at 10 a.m. Nov. 29 and Dec. 13, at Garcia’s Restaurant at the intersection of U.S. Hwy. 26 and U.S. Hwy. 85 in Torrington.

EWC holiday hours announced

TORRINGTON – Eastern Wyoming College will close at noon on Nov. 22 and will be closed through Nov. 24 for the Thanksgiving holiday. The Fitness Center will be closed Thursday and Friday, Nov. 23-24, only. The Fitness Center will open for its regular hours on Saturday and Sunday. College offices will reopen for regular business hours on Monday, Nov. 27.

EWC Vet Tech club holding dog wash

TORRINGTON – The Eastern Wyoming College Veterinary Technology Club will hold its final dog wash for the fall semester from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2 at the Veterinary Technology building on the EWC campus, 3200 West C Street in Torrington. Walk-ins will be accepted until 10:30 a.m. A current rabies certificate is required to participate, rabies tags cannot be accepted.

Pricing for the dog wash is as follows:

Bath: Small Dog (0-20#) $8; Medium Dog (20.1-50#) $10; Large Dog (50.1 – 90#) $12; Extra Large Dog (90.1 and above) $14

Added charge for Long hair: (Require additional grooming and drying time): Small - $3; Medium - $5; Large - $7; Extra Large - $9.

Other Services: Nail trim - $5

Lions host annual Christmas dinner, auction

LINGLE – The Lingle-Fort Laramie Lions Club will host its annual Christmas Dinner and Gift Auction, beginning at 6:15 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 4, at the Fellowship Hall of the Lingle Community Presbyterian Church.

Cost is $12.50 per plate and includes hors d’oeuvres, main dish, beverage and dessert. All of the funds raised will be donated to the Allen H. Stewart Blind Camp on Casper Mountain for visually impared children.

Sugar tour set for Dec. 5

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. – The Scottsbluff/Gering United Chamber of Commerce AgriBusiness Committee will host its annual Sugar Tour at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5. The tour is a fund raiser for scholarships awarded to eligible students pursuing Ag-related careers. Cost is $30 per person and includes a tour of the Scottsbluff sugar factory, an educational presentation and supper. The meal is provided by Western Sugar, BetaSeed and WESTCO.

Participants must be 18 years of age, and are encouraged to wear flat-heeled, closed-toe shoes, as there is walking and stairs involved in the tour. For safety and food production purposes, jewelry, dangly earrings and necklaces, rings, and watches, are not allowed to be worn.

Author, columnist to speak

TORRINGTON – Retired journalist Bill Sniffin, author of the popular “My Wyoming” columns, which appear periodically in the Telegram and other publications around the state, will be the special guest at several events next month.

Sniffin, of Lander, is also the author of several books based in the Cowboy State, including High Altitudes, Low Multitudes,” and a trilogy of coffee table books, “Wyoming’s Greatest Natural Wonders.” The visit will include several book signing events as well as talks about his work.

He will be special guest of the Goshen County Cattlewomen during the group’s annual dinner, scheduled for 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10, in the Brand Room of the Goshen County Rendezvous Center on the fairgrounds in Torrington. The following day, Monday, Dec. 11, Sniffin will speak to the Torrington Rotary Club during its regular meeting at the Cottonwood Country Club here.

Sniffin will be signing books and talking about his experiences since moving to Wyoming in 1970 at 6 p.m. Monday evening at the Torrington Library Annex, 2017 East A St. in Torrington. His whirlwind tour will conclude with a presentation to the Goshen County Historical Society at its regular meeting, set for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12, in the Platte Valley Bank Community Room, 2201 Main St. in Torrington.

Goshen Community Theatre’s “The Pajama Game” auditions

TORRINGTON – Auditions for Goshen Community Theatre’s “The Pajama Game” are scheduled for Dec. 15 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. and Dec. 16 from 8 a.m. to noon. Callbacks will be 1 to 5 p.m. Dec. 16 at the Eastern Wyoming College Fine Arts Auditorium. The production is looking for nine men and seven women characters, along with many singers and dancers. An informational meeting will be held Monday, Dec. 4 at 6 p.m. at the EWC Auditorium. Synopsis: In the early 1950’s, workers in a pajama factory want a 7.5-cent raise. In the midst of this ordeal, love blossoms between Babe, the grievance committee head, and Sid, the new factory superintendent. For questions, call (307) 575-3568.
