GoCo Historical Society changes meetings

TORRINGTON – Changes are being made to the regular monthly meetings of the Goshen County Historical Society as the group goes forward with a reorganization.

Regular society meetings will be held on the fourth Tuesday of the month, September through May, beginning at 7 p.m. The meeting place is also changing to the Community Room of the Platte Valley Bank branch office, 2201 Main St. in Torrington.

For the December meeting only, the group will meet on the second Tuesday, Dec. 12, at 7 p.m. in the Platte Valley Bank Community Room.

New officers for the reorganized Historical Society are President Mary Houser, Vice-president Russell Zimmer, Treasurer Ross Burmaster and Secretary Jennifer Lanier. The group’s Board of Directors are Chuck Coleman, Pat Ellis, Don Hodgson, George Zeimens and Vickie Zimmer.

Goshen County Democrats

TORRINGTON – The Goshen County Democratic Party invites and welcomes interested county residents to their monthly meetings, held on the fourth Tuesday of every month, 6 p.m. at the Goshen County Library Annex, 2017 East A St. in Torrington.

GoCo Quilters meetings changed

TORRINGTON – The regular meeting place for the Goshen County Quilters group has changed.

Monthly meetings will still be on the second Saturday of the month, but will be hosted in the Bethel Baptist Church gymnasium, 2980 East D St., in Torrington.

The group does not meet during the months of July and August.

Overeaters Anonymous

TORRINGTON – The Torrington chapter of Overeaters Anonymous hosts two meetings Tuesdays locally. The organization is a 12-step group designed to help stop compulsive eating and food behaviors while working toward attaining and maintaining healthy body weight.

Discussion group invites public

TORRINGTON – The Political Discussion Group of the Goshen County Democratic Women invites interested area women to a series of round-table meetings.

GCDW has organized the sessions to discuss local, state and national issues. The next meeting will be at 10 a.m. Nov. 15, with additional meetings scheduled for Nov. 29 and Dec. 13, at Garcia’s Restaurant at the intersection of U.S. Hwy. 26 and U.S. Hwy. 85 in Torrington.

Community Thanksgiving

LINGLE – No one should be alone on Thanksgiving and two local families want to make sure that doesn’t happen.

The Harshberger and Miller families will host a free Community Thanksgiving Dinner from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Lingle American Legion Hall in honor of the holiday. All are welcome to an assemblage of “food, family and love,” according to a release.

Ladies, start your welders

TORRINGTON – Eastern Wyoming College is offering a beginners welding class geared specifically toward women.

From 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 18, faculty in the EWC Welding Technology department will offer instruction to women interested in welding. In the class, students will be guided through the welding process while making a project they’ll be able to take home at the end.

Students are urged to wear sturdy shoes and long-sleeve shirts. Welding gloves, helmets and other necessary equipment will be provided.

Cost is $40 and the registration deadline is Nov. 15. To register, contact the EWC Community Education Department, (307) 532-8323 or in person in the CTEC building on the Torrington campus. 

Vet services offered in Torrington

TORRINGTON – A service officer from the Wyoming Veterans Commission will be in Torrington, conducting community outreach events, throughout November.

Greg Gauntlett will host a series of outreach events. He will be at the Torrington Workforce Services Center, 1610 East M St., from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m., on Tuesday, Nov. 21. He will also be at the Veteran of Foreign Wars post, 908 W. 25th St., from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 14 and Nov. 28.

Topics will include state and federal benefits, Dept. of Veterans Affairs claims and healthcare services through the Veterans Administration. He will also be available to help veterans and their families apply for benefit, file claims and schedule healthcare services.

History Center programs announced

LINGLE – The Western History Center will host two programs in November, one dealing with the past and one with the future.

Dave Eddington of Torrington will be at the History Center at 7 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 16, to share stories and history of the town of Veteran. On Tuesday, Nov. 28, again at 7 p.m., Fort Laramie National Historic Site Superintendent Tom Baker will be at the Platte Valley Bank Community Room in Torrington, speaking about the future for the NHS and plans for the upcoming 150th anniversary of the Treaty of Fort Laramie, signed in April 1868.

Search and Rescue Pet Portraits

TORRINGTON – The Goshen County Sheriff’s Dept. Search and Rescue team will be offering pet portraits with Santa Claus again this year.

Photo day is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 18, at the Bomgaars store on South Main Street in Torrington. Cost for the photo day is $15, which guarantees a minimum of 15 images on disc.

All pets are welcome, including large animals, but must be on a leash at all times. This is the eighth year the team has hosted the holiday pet pictures event.

All proceeds from the photo day will go to the Search and Rescue team to assist in covering the costs of training and community-wide programs.

Lions host annual Christmas dinner, auction

LINGLE – The Lingle-Fort Laramie Lions Club will host its annual Christmas Dinner and Gift Auction, beginning at 6:15 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 4, at the Fellowship Hall of the Lingle Community Presbyterian Church.

Cost is $12.50 per plate and includes hors d’oeuvres, main dish, beverage and dessert. All of the funds raised will be donated to the Allen H. Stewart Blind Camp on Casper Mountain for visually impared children.

Sugar tour set for Dec. 5

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. – The Scottsbluff/Gering United Chamber of Commerce AgriBusiness Committee will host its annual Sugar Tour at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5. The tour is a fund raiser for scholarships awarded to eligible students pursuing Ag-related careers. Cost is $30 per person and includes a tour of the Scottsbluff sugar factory, an educational presentation and supper. The meal is provided by Western Sugar, BetaSeed and WESTCO.

Participants must be 18 years of age, and are encouraged to wear flat-heeled, closed-toe shoes, as there is walking and stairs involved in the tour. For safety and food production purposes, jewelry, dangly earrings and necklaces, rings, and watches, are not allowed to be worn.
