Garden Program cancelled
TORRINGTON – A garden program hosted by the University of Wyoming Extension Service in Goshen County is not being held this spring.
Caleb Carter, agriculture and horticulture extension educator for the county, said the Extension Tidbits Garden Series is a program he’s hosted in the past. Through a clerical error, a program session on Sunday, May 7 was published. The program will be held again but it is not being held this spring, Carter said.We apologize for any confusion.

EWC to host author C.J. Box
TORRINGTON – The Eastern Wyoming College Community Education department will host Wyoming Author C.J. Box for a meet and greet book-signing event from 2 to 4 p.m. on Friday, May 12 in the “Corner” in the Verl Petsch Jr. Activities Center. The corner is located near the cafeteria.
Box is a Wyoming native and is the bestselling author of 21 novels including the Joe Pickett series. He won the Edgar Alan Poe Award for Best Novel (Blue Heaven, 2009) as well as the Anthony Award, Prix Calibre 38 (France), the Macavity Award, the Gumshoe Award, two Barry Awards, and the 2010 Mountains & Plains Independent Booksellers Association Award for fiction.  
He was recently awarded the 2016 Western Heritage Award for Literature by the National Cowboy Museum as well as the Spur Award for Best Contemporary Novel by the Western Writers of America in 2017.
This event is free and open to the public.

Square dance set
GERING, Neb. – Oregon Trail Dance Club will have a Sadie Hawkins/Graduation Dance at the IOOF Hall in Gering from 7-9 p.m. with Lucky calling. We will have PLUS dancing from 6:30-7 p.m. Graduation of new dancers will be tonight with a special celebration.   Family invited.
 
Master Gardeners host tree sale
TORRINGTON – The Goshen County Master Gardener Club will host its 2017 tree sale on Saturday, May 13, beginning at 9 a.m. at the Goshen County Extension Office, Hwy. 26/85, just west of the Port of Entry.

Varieties include chokecherry, purple lilac, northern red oak, maidenhair tree (ginkgo), golden delicious apple, Italian plum, president plum, moorpark apricot, bur oak, silver linden and catalpa. All trees are zone four, except for some fruit varieties which are zone five varieties. Most trees are bare root, with some potted. All will need to be planted quickly. Variety descriptions and information on proper planting and care will also be available.
Pre-ordered trees will be ready for pickup at the Extension Office beginning on May 10 between 8 a.m. and noon and 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., or at the tree sale.

Driver safety course set May 13
GUERNSEY – AARP of Wyoming will host a safety course for drivers next month.
The Driver Safety course is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 13, at the Guernsey Senior Center, 100 S Wyoming Ave., in Guernsey. Cost for the class is $15 for AARP members. Individuals who are not members of AARP may take the course for a $20 charge.

Father/Daughter Spring Dance
TORRINGTON – Torrington Job’s Daughters Bethel #20 will be hosting a Father/Daughter dance Saturday, May 20th, from 6-8pm at the Torrington Masonic Lodge- 2801 Main Street. Fathers, grandfathers, and uncles are also invited. Dress in your favorite spring attire and join us for an evening of fun. Refreshments and games will be provided along with dancing opportunities. Walk to honor veterans
TORRINGTON – May 20 is the deadline to sign up for a planned Memorial Day 5K run/walk to benefit the Wounded Warriors Project.
Co-hosted by Eastern Wyoming College GEAR UP program and McKinley and La’More Creative Consulting, the Honoring Warriors of Freedom event is scheduled for 8 a.m. to noon on Monday, May 29. Walkers and runners will depart from the EWC parking lot, 3200 West C Street, in Torrington.
Participation cost is $25 per person with proceeds from the walk benefiting the Wounded Warriors Project to assist injured veterans and their families. Individuals who register early will receive a participation t-shirt. Walkers and runners may register the day of the event but a t-shirt is not guaranteed.

New student registration set for EWC
TORRINGTON – Eastern Wyoming College has announced that new student registration will be held for Goshen County students on May 30, 2017 at the main campus in Torrington.  Students will meet with an advisor and register for the Fall 2017 semester.
Students will have the opportunity to begin with the ACCUPLACER placement exams, if needed.  This placement exam is used to ensure placement into the appropriate English, reading and math courses.  There is a fee of $20 for these computer-based exams.  Students should bring a calculator for the mathematics portion of the test.
Financial Aid staff will be available to assist students with the financial aid process and preparing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
