Group raises funds for youth center
TORRINGTON – Brave C.A.T.S., a local non-profit youth organization, is holding a raffle from June 1 to July 1 to raise organizational money that will help bring a youth facility to Torrington.
Lamar Mainor, executive director of the organization said they have a $40,000 commitment from the Daniels Fund it Brave C.A.T.S. can raise an additional $30,000.
He said the group has been looking at buildings in town to refurbish that would be a good fit for a youth facility and have a few candidates they are considering.
Raffle tickets can be purchased at Points West Community Bank, 2234 Main Street, Torrington and cost $1 per ticket. The person with the winning ticket will receive a $50 Walmart gift card.


Lifeway to host VBS
FORT LARAMIE – “Galactic Starveyors” is the title of an upcoming Vacation Bible School set for June at the Fort Laramie Community
Center here.
Lifeway Fort Laramie of Torrington will host the VBS for students in preschool through sixth grade from 6 to 7:45 p.m., June 12 – 16. The event will feature music, crafts, games and more, all around the general theme, “Searching the Visible, Discover
the Invisible.”

Veteran Appreciation Day
TORRINGTON – Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2918 in Torrington will host a Veterans Appreciation Celebration in honor of Flag Day, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 14 at the post hall, west of the school administration building on West 25th Avenue, in
Torrington.
The community at large is invited to enjoy free food and entertainment while saying thank you and honoring veterans. Educational booths with Veteran Administration benefits information will also be available.

Hawk Springs Hamburger Fry
HAWK SPRINGS – Bring your appetites to the Hawk Springs Community Building from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 14, for the annual Hawk Springs Hamburger Fry.
Fresh grilled burgers, along with a full board of salads, baked beans, hot dogs and an assortment of desserts will be available. Cost for the feed is $7 for adults and $3 for children age 6 to 11. Children under 6 years old eat free.
Tickets will be on sale for a 50/50 raffle for $1 each or six for $5. Drawing for the raffle will be held during the August Hamburger Fry on Aug. 9.
The summer hamburger fries provide the main source of revenue for maintenance and upkeep of the Community Building, which features a stage and sound system and is available for rental throughout the year. Children are invited to try out the refurbished playground equipment on the Community Building.

Art debut set
TORRINGTON – All Saints Episcopal Church in Torrington will host the first public exhibition of a collection of religious art.
The collection, Painted Parables by Mary Ellen Kastner, will be on exhibit at the church, located at 2601 Main Street in Torrington. An opening reception will be from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 17, at the church.
The collection of paintings and mandalas come from Ms. Kastner’s sketch books, some dating back to the 1970s.

Food distribution set
CASPER – The Wyoming Food Bank of the Rockies will host a mobile food bank food distribution day, Monday, June 19, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Goshen County Fairgrounds Rendezvous Center
in Torrington.
A WFBR press release said plans are to have sufficient food for distribution to 500 families. Items available will include fresh and canned fruit and vegetables, meat and fish and additional food and personal items. The agency expects to distribute about 20,000 pounds of food, the equivalent of more than 15,000 meals, to Goshen County families.
Volunteers are needed to assist with set-up, distributing the food and cleaning up following the event. Interested parties may call (307) 232-4016 or email their interest in volunteering to anickolai@food

It’s All Greek takes the stage
TORRINGTON – Mark your calendars for a free night of theater entertainment later this month.
The Goshen County Theater Youth Theater Workshop will present It’s All Greek to Me!, Originally written by Goshen County students, the play is an adaptation of a trio of Greek myths.
The production includes a good helping of comedy and music, director Lisa Fluckiger said.
The play will take the stage for one night only on Thursday, June 29, with a 7 p.m. curtain, on the stage at the Torrington High School Auditorium.

Smart Driver course to be offered
TORRINGTON ­– The Torrington Senior Friendship Center will host a Smart Driver course from the AARP on July 11 and
Aug. 14.
Times for the course will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day at the Senior Center in Torrington. Cost is $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-members.
