Claire was a loving wife, wonderful mother and precious grandmother. She was born March 30, 1917, in Kansas City, Mo. In June 1933, she and Leslie Spence were married in Valentine, Neb., on the ranch. They were proud parents to four sons, all of whom served in the US Military.
She is survived by her loving son, Dale Spence and wife Janet of Denver, Colo.; six grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and cherished friends Larry and Kathy Foltz and family. She was preceded in death by her husband Les and sons James, William and Robert.
Claire was a faithful member of the First Wyoming United Presbyterian Church and Jay-Em Garden Club. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed her 11 years at the Petsch Ranch cookhouse. As a talented seamstress she enjoyed all types of sewing. She did alterations until she was in her nineties. Her beautiful handmade quilts won many ribbons.
An avid gardener and proud homemaker, Claire always had coffee and homemade cookies for any visitor. She journaled faithfully every day recording weather, visitors, sewing projects and her daily walks – in one year she logged 700 miles walking at the school track. Hers was a life well lived and we will miss her, for now.
