Christmas lighting contest nears

LINGLE – Town of Lingle residents with a penchant for holiday decorating and discounts on their utility bills might consider participating in the annual Lingle Christmas lighting contest.

The first-place winner receives $100 off their power bill; second place, $75; third place, $50; and four honorable mentions will receive $25 each.

Last year’s star decorator cannot receive first-place honors again in 2018.

The council will determine winners on Wednesday, Dec. 19.

In other business:

n The council approved paying bills for October in the amount of $105,012.26.

n Lodging Tax Board Chair Sarah Chaires was in attendance to discuss a Lingle signage project for 2019. The sign will include a map of all local municipalities – with Lingle highlighted – and key historical points or attractions. The Lodging Tax Board and a grant from Wyoming Tourism will fund the project.

n Goshen County Economic Development Corporation’s Sandy Hoehn and Paxton Bignell also attended Wednesday evening and handed out a report from the organization’s annual meeting.

n Clerk-Treasurer Michele Sussex said she applied for another grant from Black Hills Energy in the amount of $25,000 for the proposed new community center. She also announced the town has opened up an “Enterprise Fund” for Lingle Pool.

n Maintenance Supervisor Larry Haeffelin stated his department will begin hanging Christmas decorations the end of this month.

n The council moved to opt out of a $12,500 Wyoming Municipal Power Agency rate study on demand charges in the town.

n There will be no council meeting on Nov. 21, due to the Thanksgiving holiday. The next council meeting is Wednesday, Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. at Lingle Town Hall.
