TORRINGTON – Charlie E. Smith died Friday, April 2, 2021 at the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper. A celebration of life will be held at 3 p.m., April 10, 2021, at the Moose Lodge in Torrington. Arrangements are under the direction of the Colyer Funeral Home and friends may send condolences to the family at www.colyerfuneralhome.com.

Charlie was born May 27, 1943, to Silver Smith and Marie ‘Rose’ Smith. He lived in Guernsey and Hartville before moving to Torrington. Charlie was in an accident when he was 20 years old which left him a paraplegic. He was told he may live to be 40 years old but with his determination he has made it to 77 years, ten months and six days. He had many challenges over the years, each one he came back with a fight to meet his challenges. He did not win this last one with two types of cancer.

Charlie worked for Gunder’s Garage fixing cars and did other jobs as well. At one time, he started his own car shop. Charlie was always the guy to call if you needed to know what was wrong with your car and would say what it was and who could fix it. He took care of himself, his house, his car and was always willing to help others in need.

Charlie is survived by brothers Buddy “Orson” Smith and Wayne (Stacey) Smith of Torrington; sisters Ellah Stuck and Dorothy (Jerry) Ackerman-Nash of Torrington; Ruth (Allen) Vance of Scottsbluff, Neb., Fern Stoger of Los Angeles, Calif. and Ruby (James) Ackerman of Denver, Colo. and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and three brothers.

Honorary pallbearers are Chuck Wilson, Tim Tater, Hazen Stone, Jerry Nash and Gary Hunter.
