YODER – A storm has been brewing recently at Southeast Schools, as the high school welcomes the completion of this new project displayed in the Elementary Gym.
Southeast High School’s mascot Clyde is seen ripping apart the walls of the gymnasium with his fierce, cyclone-force winds. The change to Clyde’s appearance was voted on by the student body of Southeast High School, as the students desired to see a fiercer looking mascot.
This new logo may come as a shock to many people, as it is not the usual cyclone fans have known.
In the search for an artistic change to both the gym and the logo, the school turned to All-American Sports consultant Dave Vondy to aid in the process of organizing the mural. With help from All-American Sports’ Rich Klinzmann, the logo designer, Barry Lee, mural artist from Hawk Springs, and Jeff Logsdon, the vision and collaboration coordinator, the new cyclone was brought to life.
“It turned out amazing,” Vondy said. “Great logo and mural painting for great people. Go Cyclones.”
The love for the new “Clyde the Cyclone” logo was felt all over social media when Vondy posted the picture to his Facebook page.
“Barry does such good work,” commentator Elliot Chapman, a former Southeast High School student, said. “He is incredibly talented.”
“This is awesome,” commented Jamie Tippetts, a parent of Southeast School students. “I’m excited I got the kids’ pictures by it.”
“This turned out fantastic!” former Southeast Junior/Senior High School secretary Shanon Short said. “I love it.”
The new logo not only adds a touch of flair to the gymnasium but changes the longstanding Clyde most are used to seeing.
Come and support the Cyclones on Feb. 9, 16, and 17 at the next home high school boys’ and girls’ basketball games to see the schools’ new Christmas present, “Clyde the Cyclone.” Or come to the home wrestling meet to cheer on Southeast High School’s wrestlers on Feb. 3.
These dates will be the last chance to see the new Clyde before the end of the current sporting seasons.
While visiting Southeast, thank a Booster Club member for funding the mural and always being financially supportive of Southeast Schools athletic and academic programs.
