Machinists Mate 2nd Class Cecil Warren Brooks
Warren left for basic training at Farragut, Idaho, in March 1943. He was assigned to Treasure Island, Calif.,, then to Hawaii. Warren was assigned to the U.S.S. Lubbock and set sail in the South Pacific, stopping at 31 ports and engaging in battles at Okinawa and Iwo Jima. Warren was honorably discharged form the navy in April 1946.
After arriving home from the service, he started working at the Torrington Telegram as an apprentics. Many years later, after owning his own business, he and his wife, Darlene, sold their Torrington Printing Co. to the Telegram in 1967. Warren and Darlene Established B&B Printing in Chadron, Neb., in 1970, owning the business until they retired in 1988. They returned to their hometown of Torrington 19 years ago. The Brooks’s had two children - a son Larry Warren and his wife, Kate Brooks, living in Fort Collins, Colo., and Diane Darlene Brooks, who passed away Nov. 13, 2009.
Warren will celebrate his 96th birthday on Nov. 21, 2019.
