LINGLE – After numerous requests from residents, the Town of Lingle may begin accepting credit cards in the future. Council members discussed offering customers the option to pay their bills with plastic at the meeting Wednesday evening.
“There’s a fairly decent amount (of people who want us to use credit cards),”
Sussex said.
Sussex stated there are start-up costs associated with the payment alternative, in addition to a 2.75 percent fee per transaction and a 3 percent plus 15-cent fee for transactions that require card numbers to be punched in, rather than simply swiping the card.
The council agreed – if the town does begin accepting credit cards – to pass on the transaction fees to customers who pay with charge cards.
“A lot of people want to do everything by credit card because they get some kind of kickback from it,” Town Attorney Greg Knudsen said.
