Caleigh Essert gearing up for America’s Cup

CASPER – Torrington’s Caleigh Essert has been busy picking up the first-place finishes in an effort to get ready for the Girls Junior America’s Cup in Las Vegas, Nev.
Just days after qualifying for the big event, Essert returned to competitive action June 28-29 in Laramie at the Jacoby Golf Course. She won the two-day event, posting scores of 78 and 75 to finish with a two-day score of 153.
On July 11, the Torrington golfer won a tournament at the Cottonwood at Torrington during the Panhandle Junior Golf Tour, carding a 75. She just returned from the Wyoming Junior Tournament at the Paradise Valley Golf Course in Casper on Monday, where she finished first with a score of 76.

While in Casper, Essert met with her coach for the Junior America’s Cup. Because the Reflection Bay Golf Club in Las Vegas has more distance, Essert’s coach wants her to start practicing from the black (men’s) tees instead of the white (women’s) tees to prepare for the added yardage.
Essert hits the road July 27 to start the trip to Las Vegas. The three-day golf tournament is slated for Aug. 1-3.
“It makes me a better golfer in Las Vegas for sure because of the yardage, the harder course and golfing against better people,” Essert said.
Once she returns from Nevada on Aug. 4, Essert has a quick turnaround because Torrington’s first golf tournament of the fall season is Aug. 10-11 in Wheatland.
