Busy, rewarding fall for Torrington/Lingle FFA Chapter

GOSHEN COUNTY – The Torrington/Lingle FFA Chapter competed in the 2019 National FFA Convention in the Career Development Event of Horse Evaluation. 

The 92nd annual event, Oct. 30 – Nov. 2 in Indianapolis, Inc., consisted of 48 teams from across the nation and Puerto Rico. Individually, Torrington/Lingle FFA members evaluated eight classes, prepared and delivered four sets of oral reasons, along with a 30-question exam and a team activity that consisted of five different equine industry activities ranging from nutrition and equine health to equine reproduction and developing an equine performance pattern. 

Team members Alejandro Chavarria, Cora Frederick, Dally Wilkins, and Rori Masterson finished 7th Overall in the nation. Rori Masterson finished 10th high individual overall and 3rd high individual in oral reasons. Cora Fredrick was the 3rd High Individual Overall, High Individual in Performance Horse, and 2nd High Individual in Oral Reasons. Dally Wilkins finished the day as the Reserve National Champion Individual, 2nd High Individual in Halter Horse, and 6th High Individual in Oral Reasons. Team members returned home with $2,100 in awards and scholarships.

Additionally, Paige Miller represented Torrington/Lingle and the Wyoming FFA Association at the National FFA Employment Skills, Leadership Development Event. Upon their return home, these members and 20 others attended the 2019 Wyoming FFA Foundations in Reaching Excellence/Chapter Presidents Conference in Casper. This is the fall leadership conference for Wyoming FFA that allows students to further develop leadership skills and participate in delegate sessions and guiding the work of the Wyoming FFA Association.
