TORRINGTON – Goshen County high school students Mika Braddy and William Fluckiger have been named 2018 recipients of the Hovis Arts Award, presented by the Goshen Community Theatre.

Braddy, from Torrington High School, is the daughter of Paul Braddy. She’s been involved in show choir, theater and a local acapella group during high school.

Most recently, she appeared in the high school spring musical production of Sister Act and played Beth in last year’s production of Little Women.

Braddy’s future plans include attending University of Wyoming, Colorado State University or University of Denver to study music.

Fluckiger, who’ll graduate this year from Southeast High School, is the son of Ezdan and Lisa Fluckiger. He’s been active in both vocal and instrumental music throughout his high school career, through All-State Choir, SEHS Show Choir and Concert Choir, band and a local acapella group.

Also active in the theater, Fluckiger has performed in a number of high school musicals as well as taking the stage with GCT and Theatre West in Scottsbluff, Neb.

The $500 award is named for Jessica Hovis of LaGrange, who was active in GCT prior to her death at age 16 in a traffic accident near Yoder in 2006. A sophomore at Southeast High School at the time of her death, Hovis was involved in school choir and appeared in a Goshen Community Theatre production of My Fair Lady.

The award is presented annually to two Goshen County high school seniors who’ve excelled in the arts – dance, drama, fine art, instrumental and vocal music – during their high school careers.
