TORRINGTON – The Goshen County School District No. 1 Board of Trustees took care of routine business Tuesday, re-electing sitting board officers to another term.
Superintendent Ryan Kramer was appointed as the Chairman Pro Tem. Board Officers are: Board Chair, Katherine Patrick; Vice Chair, Christine Miller; Board Clerk, Mark Jespersen; Board Treasurer, Zachary Miller.
All banks and lending institutions countywide were designated as depositories for district funds and the Board meeting dates and times will be held the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. There was an amendment to no longer hold meetings at any other date in July.
Patrick also appointed board committees for 2020.
Mike Lashley was recognized for his induction into the National High School Athletic Coaches Association Hall
of Fame.
Kathy Hamer-Smith and Marv Haiman received the Wyoming Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association Lifetime Achievement Award.
Special Education Director Trina Nichol briefed the Board on the Black Hills Special Services Cooperation studies that were conducted on students. The studies give educators an idea as to how the students identified with disabilities could start achieving marks at, or close to, the other students.
The consent agenda was approved, including:
• Approval of the November meeting minutes, monthly bills, district monthly fiscal statement, acceptance of retirement notifications;
• The proposed 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 school year calendars;
• A donation of four electronic vape sensors for Torrington High School;
• An addendum to decrease in related nursing services;
• Approval of a purchase for scoreboards for Southeast High School, and;
• A purchase for a district pole
vault pit.
Under new business the following items were approved:
• 2018-2019 District Financial Audit;
• Proposed revisions for district policies 5147, 4111.1, 4115 and 4310.
Board Chair Patrick said she was pleased that there are no issues with the District Financial Audit. The Board planned to meet following the meeting to discuss the local high schools’ Board of Trustees.
The Board discussed an appropriate time to conduct Climate Surveys. Chair Patrick said they should review the Leadership Government’s Document.
The Superintendent’s report showed that the district is up by three students, the need to remain cognizant of the budget and a recognition of the school employees that will be retiring.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:03 p.m.
