TORRINGTON – The Torrington High School wrestling team hosted the third of four quadrangulars this season on Tuesday evening, finishing the evening winless at Willi Gym.

The Blazers hosted Douglas, Newcastle/Upton and Wheatland, and the team opened the evening’s trio of duals against the Class 3A No. 2-ranked Douglas Bearcats.

When the dust settled, Torrington only won one match in a 78-3 loss.

The Blazers spotted the visitors a 36-0 lead heading into the 220-pound match.

Sophomore Sam Sorenson scored Torrington’s lone win of the dual in the 220-pound class, defeating Kyle Logar, 5-0.

Sorenson, the top-ranked 3A 220-pound wrestler, scored points in each of the three periods, including a takedown in the first, an escape in the second and a two-point near fall in the third.

Douglas finished out the dual with seven consecutive wins.

In the second round, Torrington fell to Newcastle/Upton, 41-24.

The Blazers got free points at 285 and 220 pounds as Newcastle/Upton was open at those two weights.

Torrington also got points from Bryce Hager (152 pounds) and Marcos Martinez (160) courtesy of pins. Hager scored his win early in the second period, while Martinez picked up his victory in the first minute of the match.

In the final dual of the evening, the Blazers lost to Wheatland, 52-12.

Wheatland was open at 113 pounds, tying the dual at six, but Torrington didn’t get another victory until Sorenson nabbed his third win of the evening with a fall late in the second period over Wheatland’s Gabe Plante.

The Blazers will be back in action Friday, Jan. 22 at home for the final home quad of the season. Torrington will host Buffalo, Burns/Pine Bluffs and Wheatland. Action gets underway at 4 p.m.
