Blazers take fifth

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. – The Torrington Trailblazers boys and girls track teams both finished fifth in the Twilight Invitational in Scottsbluff, Neb. on Friday.
The Blazers were slated to compete in the Douglas Invitational, but weather caused the invitational to be canceled. Torrington managed to compete in Scottsbluff instead.
The Blazer boys racked up 57.25 team points, just behind Lingle-Fort Laramie, who took fourth with 60.25 points. The Torrington girls amassed 61.75 team points, behind Alliance, Neb., who had 64.08 points in fourth place. Gering, Neb. took both the boys (143 points) and girls titles (116.33 points).
Logan Harris continued his domination in the shot put, taking first with a throw of 60 feet, 3 inches. In the discus, he finished third, throwing 132 feet, 3 inches.
Also in the shot, Jacob Wambolt (fifth, 43 feet, 10 inches) and Nathaniel Woodruff (eighth, 41 feet, 2 inches) racked up team points for their efforts. Woodruff and Wambolt finished back-to-back in the discus, taking 15th (105 feet, 3 inches) and 16th (93 feet, 4 inches).
Corbin Harris (17th), Brandon Bennick (20th) and Tyler Schaub (29th) also competed in the shot put, while Aaron Loya (17th) and Trevor Warren (25th) put together efforts in the discus.
In other field events, Casey Britton took sixth in the high jump, clearing 5 feet, 4 inches. Jared Spencer was the best pole vaulter, finishing fifth with a 10 feet, 8 inch effort. Trey Rodriguez cleared the same height, taking sixth. Cade Schwartzkoft rounded out the pole vaulters, taking eighth after clearing 10 feet, 2 inches.
Jesse Lay had the best finish in the long jump, with a jump of 17 feet, 11.75 inches, earning him ninth. Brett Posten cleared 17 feet, 1 inch, finishing 13th, and Dylan Waller took 21st with a jump of 15 feet, 8.5 inches.
On the track, Aaron Borger had the best individual performance, clocking a time of 2:06.10 in the 800-meter run to finish fourth. Cameron Juma turned in a time of 2:23.91 to take 10th and Chance Newman finished in 2:29.93 to slide into 15th.

In the short races, Bo Moorehouse tied for the best finish among the Blazers, taking sixth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 54.05 seconds. Kevin Parish turned in a time of 57.97 seconds to finish 14th.
Mondell Tolman and Frank Rand finished back-to-back in the prelims of the 200-meter dash, taking fourth and fifth with times of 23.54 seconds and 23.90 seconds. In the finals, Tolman was called for a false start, while Rand managed to take sixth with a time of 24.57 seconds. Tolman was the only Blazer to reach the finals of the 100-meter dash, finishing eighth with a time of 12.25 seconds. Rand just missed the cut of the 100 prelims, finishing ninth (11.79 seconds).
Moorehouse (11th), Parish (21st), Posten (23rd) and Waller (28th) all competed in the 100-meter prelims. Posten (19th), Waller (24th) and Preston McCart (32nd) tried their hand at the 200, but missed the cut for the finals.
Brice Krick had a solid day in the hurdles, taking fifth in the 110-meter hurdles (17.78 seconds) and 10th in the 300-meter hurdles (45.15 seconds). Lay took 12th in the longer hurdles (47.98 seconds).
The 3200-meter relay team of Borger, Juma, Josh Posten and Pake Haun took third, clocking a time of 9:01.14. In the 1600-meter relay, Borger, Tolman, Moorehouse and Tristan DeMott turned in a time of 3:40.35 to take fourth. DeMott, Moorehouse, Rand and Tolman took fifth in the 400-meter relay with a time of 46.21 seconds.
On the girls’ side, Samantha Hill and Renee Cline took the top two spots on the podium in the triple jump. Hill cleared 32 feet, 7 inches and Cline cleared 32 feet, 0.25 inches.
In the long jump, Logan Murphy picked up a silver of her own, taking second with a 15 feet, 8 inch effort. Hill took fourth in the long jump, clearing 14 feet, 9 inches, while Dantia Palmer finished 10th after a jump of 13 feet, 10.5 inches.
Murphy carried her success to the track, taking sixth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.88 seconds. That being said, Shelby Prusia proved to be the fastest sprinter for Torrington in Scottsbluff, taking third in the 100-meter finals, clocking a time of 13.35 seconds. She also took fourth in the 200 with a time of 28.42 seconds.
Latosha Wiford and Palmer finished just behind Prusia in the 200-meter dash, taking fifth and sixth with times of 28.66 seconds and 29.06 seconds.
Wiford (ninth), Palmer (10th), Hill (14th) and Cline (18th) all competed in the 100-meter prelims, but missed the finals.
Onalisa Albaugh took fourth in the 400-meter dash, recording a time of 1:07.37. Katie Wiford was just behind Albaugh, turning in a time of 1:08.21 to finish fifth.
Murphy had the best finish in the hurdles, taking fourth in the 300-meter race with a time of 51.81 seconds. Cheyenne Mickle took 14th (1:00.02) and Falecia Blow took 15th (1:03.68). Blow also took 15th in the 100-meter hurdle prelims (22.56 seconds).
Aubrey DeMott and Nakalyn Garner tied for the seventh slot in the pole vault after they both cleared 7 feet, 6 inches. Albaugh took 10th, Katie Wiford took 13th and Sarandon Keeran finished 16th.
Tayte Rodriguez was the best thrower for the Lady Blazers, taking 18th in the discus (71 feet, 2 inches) and 25th in the shot put (24 feet, 5 inches). Chloe Krick took 27th in the shot and 22nd in the discus. Pamela Pierce recorded a 28th finish in the shot put and Teagan Feldt took 31st in the discus and 33rd in the shot put.
The best relay for the Lady Blazers was Cline, Prusia, Hill and Latosha Wiford, who took third in the 400-meter relay with a time of 53.42 seconds. Brielle Bivens, Chrissy Lira, Adia Sherbeyn and Mickle turned in a time of 11:45.28 in the 3200-meter relay for a fifth-place finish. Albaugh, Latosha Wiford, Sherbeyn and Prusia combined for a time of 4:34.01 in the 1600-meter relay to finish sixth.
The Blazers returned to the track for the Best in the West Invitational on Tuesday after press deadline. Torrington competes again in the Wyoming Track and Field Classic in Casper starting on Friday at 4 p.m.
