Blazers snag 35 top-eight places at Wiseman Invite

TORRINGTON – Logan Harris led the Torrington Trailblazer boys to a fourth-place finish after breaking his own school record, while the Lady Blazers finished sixth at the Wiseman Invitational in Torrington on Friday.
Harris, who broke the Torrington High School shot put record on April 13 with a throw of 61 feet, 6 inches, broke his own record at home. He recorded a throw of 61 feet, 9.5 inches on Friday to capture the crown. His throw was more than 10 feet further than the second-place finisher. In the discus, Harris snagged third with a throw of 147 feet, 1 inch.
Harris was not the only Blazer boy earning team points in the throwing events. In the shot put, Jacob Wambolt took fifth with a throw of 44 feet, 3 inches. Nathaniel Woodruff was not far behind, recording a throw of 40 feet, 3 inches to finish eighth. Corbin Harris rounded out the Torrington shot put throwers, taking 13th with a throw of 38 feet, 10 inches.
Woodruff captured seventh in the discus with a 127-foot, 10-inch effort. Aaron Loya was one slot behind, throwing 119 feet, 11 inches to finish eighth. Wambolt took 16th with a throw of 100 feet, 3 inches.
In other field events, Torrington took three of the top-eight slots in pole vault. Tristan DeMott was the best among the Blazers, finishing second with a vault of 12 feet, 3 inches. Cade Schwartzkoft and Jared Spencer both vaulted 10 feet, 9 inches. Trey Rodriguez just missed the top-eight, taking 10th with a vault of 9 feet, 9 inches.
Casey Britton tied for ninth in the high jump, clearing 5 feet, 8 inches. Jesse Lay slid into 14th in the triple jump with a 36-foot, 4.5-inch effort. In the long jump, Lay led the Blazers, taking 14th with a jump of 17 feet, 9.25 inches. Josh Posten took 15th (17 feet, 7 inches) and Dylan Waller took 21st (15 feet, 9 inches).
On the track, Aaron Borger had the best finish for Torrington, taking fourth in the 800-meter run (2:07.36). Chance Newman (10th) and Cameron Juma (14th) competed in the same event, posting times of 2:15.57 and 2:23.85. In the mile, Josh Posten took 12th with a time of 5:18.19 and Juma finished 19th with a time of 5:57.77. Pake Haun took sixth in the two-mile (11:42.28) and Newman finished eighth (12:13.04).
Brice Krick had a good day in the hurdles, taking fifth in the 300-meter hurdles (43.42 seconds) and seventh in the 110-meter hurdles (18.04 seconds). Lay joined Krick in the 300-meter hurdles, taking 11th with a time of 47.60 seconds.

In the sprints, Frank Rand took sixth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.63 seconds. Mondell Tolman was not far behind, finishing with a time of 23.80 seconds to take eighth. Bo Moorehouse (10th, 24.04 seconds) and Jacob Wilhoit (20th, 26.00) both competed in the 200.
Moorehouse (53.40 seconds) and DeMott (53.78 seconds) led Torrington in the 400-meter dash, taking sixth and seventh. Kevin Parish took 16th with a time of 58.52 seconds. In the shortest sprint, Rand took 10th (11.91 seconds), Brett Posten took 14th (12.06 seconds), Parish took 18th (12.40 seconds) and Schwartzkoft took 22nd (12.61 seconds).
The relay team of DeMott, Moorehouse, Tolman and Rand had the best finish of the Blazer relays, finishing fourth in the 400-meter relay with a time of 44.53 seconds. Borger, DeMott, Moorehouse and Tolman finished fourth in the 1600-meter relay (3:35.50), while Borger, Juma, Haun and Josh Posten took fourth in the 3200-meter relay (8:56.91).
The Blazer boys finished with 76 team points to finish fourth. Cheyenne Central won the boys’ title with 142.5 team points.
Samantha Hill was the only Lady Blazer to reach the top of the podium, taking first in the triple jump after clearing 33 feet, 6 inches. Renee Cline (sixth, 32 feet, 0.5 inches), Chrissy Lira (14th, 30 feet) and Dantia Palmer (29 feet, 6 inches) all joined Hill in the triple jump.
Logan Murphy paced the Lady Blazers in the long jump, taking fifth with a jump of 15 feet, 7 inches. Cline took seventh in the long jump, clearing 15 feet, 5.75 inches. Palmer took 12th (14 feet, 3 inches) and Hill finished 14th (14 feet, 1.5 inches).
Four Torrington girls competed in the pole vault, with Nakalyn Garner leading the way, taking seventh with a vault of 8 feet, 9 inches. Onalisa Albaugh cleared 7 feet, 3 inches, while Sarandon Keeran vaulted 6 feet, 9 inches and Katie Wiford vaulted 6 feet, 3 inches.
In the throwing events, Pamela Pierce led the way, capturing eighth in the discus with a throw of 93 feet, 4 inches. Tayte Rodriguez and Chloe Krick finished back-to-back, finishing 19th and 20th with throws of 70 feet, 6 inches and 68 feet, 4 inches. Teagan Feldt took 26th with a throw of 32 feet, 2 inches. Krick led the Lady Blazers in the shot put finishing 19th with a throw of 26 feet, 3 inches. Rodriguez (23rd, 24 feet, 11 inches), Pierce (25th, 23 feet, 10 inches) and Feldt (29th, 13 feet, 11 inches) were not far behind.
Shelbey Prusia had a solid day on the track, taking fourth in the 100-meter dash (13.41 seconds) and fifth in the 200-meter dash (27.59 seconds). Latosha Wiford was not far behind Prusia, clocking 13.73 seconds in the 100 (seventh) and 28.35 seconds in the 200 (eighth). Katie Wiford competed in the 100 (17th, 14.46 seconds) and the 200 (12th, 29.78 seconds).
Palmer took ninth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:04.48. Albaugh, who also finished 11th in the 200 with a time of 28.92 seconds, slid into 13th in the 400 with a time of 1:07.20.
Brielle Bivens took fifth in the 3200-meter run to lead the distance runners for the Lady Blazers, clocking a time of 14:53.69. Adia Sherbeyn clocked a time of 6:18.24 in the 1600-meter run to take ninth.
Murphy was the best hurdler for the Lady Blazers, taking fourth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 50.68 seconds. Cheyenne Mickle (10th) and Falecia Blow (11th) both competed in the 300-meter hurdles. The duo also competed in the 100-meter hurdles, with Mickle taking 15th and Blow sliding into 16th.
Murphy, Prusia, Palmer and Latosha Wiford connected for the 400-meter relay, taking third with a time of 51.69 seconds. With Albaugh taking the place of Prusia for the 1600-meter relay, the Lady Blazers took fifth (4:27.13).
The Lady Blazers finished sixth as a team with 53 team points. Cheyenne Central took the girls’ title with 143.5 points.
The Blazers return to the track in Thermopolis on May 12-13 for the regional meet.
