TORRINGTON – Logan Harris led the Torrington Trailblazer boys to a fourth-place finish after breaking his own school record, while the Lady Blazers finished sixth at the Wiseman Invitational in Torrington on Friday.
Harris, who broke the Torrington High School shot put record on April 13 with a throw of 61 feet, 6 inches, broke his own record at home. He recorded a throw of 61 feet, 9.5 inches on Friday to capture the crown. His throw was more than 10 feet further than the second-place finisher. In the discus, Harris snagged third with a throw of 147 feet, 1 inch.
Harris was not the only Blazer boy earning team points in the throwing events. In the shot put, Jacob Wambolt took fifth with a throw of 44 feet, 3 inches. Nathaniel Woodruff was not far behind, recording a throw of 40 feet, 3 inches to finish eighth. Corbin Harris rounded out the Torrington shot put throwers, taking 13th with a throw of 38 feet, 10 inches.
Woodruff captured seventh in the discus with a 127-foot, 10-inch effort. Aaron Loya was one slot behind, throwing 119 feet, 11 inches to finish eighth. Wambolt took 16th with a throw of 100 feet, 3 inches.
In other field events, Torrington took three of the top-eight slots in pole vault. Tristan DeMott was the best among the Blazers, finishing second with a vault of 12 feet, 3 inches. Cade Schwartzkoft and Jared Spencer both vaulted 10 feet, 9 inches. Trey Rodriguez just missed the top-eight, taking 10th with a vault of 9 feet, 9 inches.
Casey Britton tied for ninth in the high jump, clearing 5 feet, 8 inches. Jesse Lay slid into 14th in the triple jump with a 36-foot, 4.5-inch effort. In the long jump, Lay led the Blazers, taking 14th with a jump of 17 feet, 9.25 inches. Josh Posten took 15th (17 feet, 7 inches) and Dylan Waller took 21st (15 feet, 9 inches).
On the track, Aaron Borger had the best finish for Torrington, taking fourth in the 800-meter run (2:07.36). Chance Newman (10th) and Cameron Juma (14th) competed in the same event, posting times of 2:15.57 and 2:23.85. In the mile, Josh Posten took 12th with a time of 5:18.19 and Juma finished 19th with a time of 5:57.77. Pake Haun took sixth in the two-mile (11:42.28) and Newman finished eighth (12:13.04).
Brice Krick had a good day in the hurdles, taking fifth in the 300-meter hurdles (43.42 seconds) and seventh in the 110-meter hurdles (18.04 seconds). Lay joined Krick in the 300-meter hurdles, taking 11th with a time of 47.60 seconds.
