TORRINGTON – The Torrington High School football team will begin the 2019 ranked No. 5 in the WyoPreps.com Coaches and Media preseason poll released Wednesday.
The Blazers picked up four fifth-place votes.
The defending Class 3A state champion Star Valley Braves are the unanimous top pick to start the season, earning all 10 first-place votes. Jackson was second with 108 points, while Cody was third with 93. Douglas was picked fourth with 60.
Torrington will open the season at home against Class 2A No. 5-ranked Glenrock on Friday, Sept. 6 at 7 p.m.
Neither Southeast nor Lingle-Fort Laramie picked up any votes in the Class 1A and 1A 6-Man preseason rankings, respectively.
Defending 1A state champs Big Horn is the early season favorite to repeat, while Upton-Sundance, Cokeville, Pine Bluffs and Lusk round out the top five.
Southeast opens the season at home at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6 against Mitchell, Neb.
In the 6-Man division, Little Snake River tops the rankings, while Hanna-Elk Mountain is second. Farson-Eden is third, and Meeteetse is fourth. Burlington rounds out the top five.
The Lingle-Fort Laramie Doggers open the season against Sioux County, Neb. at 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 6.
