CHEYENNE – The Torrington Trailblazers boys cross-country team finished sixth out of 11 teams Friday at the Cheyenne Invitational, helped by four runners in the top 50.
Like every other meet so far this fall, William Fluckiger led the Torrington pack, taking 14th overall with a time of 18:56.94. Pake Haun was the next Blazer to cross the line, taking 23rd (19:31.69). Jacob Polkowske rounded out the top-three for Torrington, finishing 32nd, turning in a time of 19:48.06.
Quentin Meyer clocked the 50th best time of 20:26.00. Anthony Munoz was not far behind, snagging 52nd with a time of 20:27.41. Tristen Kingsley (20:51.03) and Jesse Lay (20:53.56) also competed in the varsity, finishing 61st and 62nd.
Torrington racked up 159 points as a team, a point behind Saratoga and Kelly Walsh, who tied for fifth with 158 points. Cheyenne Central snagged the top spot, with 21 points, while Gering, Neb. (53 points) and Cheyenne East (100 points) took second and third.
Nick Sherbeyn competed in the JV contest, garnering 38th with a time of 23:06.50.
Sera Glass had the best finish among all of the Blazers, taking eighth in the girls varsity race with a time of 20:59.07. Jaiden Hopkins crossed next, clocking a time of 23:39.97, while Shelby Schainost turned in a time of 25:08.60. Hopkins took 46th, while Schainost finished 61st. Brittany Schlager ran in the JV competition, turning in a time of 24:35.24 for 14th.
Because Torrington only had three girls compete in the varsity race, they did not record a team score. Cheyenne Central took first with 32 points, followed by Rapid City, S.D., Central, who had 71 points, and Campbell County, who had 99 points.
The Blazers are entering the postseason. They are set to compete in the conference meet Friday in Thermopolis, followed by the state meet Oct. 21 in Sheridan.
