LANDER – Torrington High School wrestler Rhiley Grubbs finished fourth at 195 pounds on Saturday at the Lander Valley High School Invite.

Grubbs was one of only four Blazers to make the trip west to Lander and was the only Torrington grappler to place.

Grubbs opened the weekend with a trio of pins to reach the semifinal round where he suffered a loss by pin. He rebounded for a 5-2 decision win over Kyle Logar of Douglas before being pinned in the third-place match to Ben Banville of Burns-Pine Bluffs.

At 126 pounds, Michael Sandusky went 3-2, suffering his second loss in the fourth round of the consolation bracket to Spencer Larson of Star Valley.

In the 160-pound bracket, Tyler Juma received a bye in the opening round before being pinned by Wheatland’s Seth DeWitt in the second round. Juma was eliminated from the tournament in the third round of the consolation bracket, losing by fall to Willam Thomasson of Cody.

At 182 pounds, Gabe Mitchell went 1-2 with his only win of the weekend coming in the fourth round of the consolation bracket by pin over Jonas Mickelson of Cody.

Torrington finished 19th with 27 points. Star Valley dominated, winning the team title with 258 points, while Powell was second with 185. Worland placed third with 175.5.

The Blazers also had a handful of junior varsity competitors at the Dogger Invite in Lingle on Saturday.

Kevin Ferguson, at 145 pounds, was the lone Blazer to place.

After picking up a pin in the opening round, Ferguson was defeated in the quarterfinal round, but battled back, reaching the consolation semifinal round before suffering his second loss of the day. The loss dropped him to the fifth-place match where he defeated Jordan Tharp of Kelly Walsh by pin.

Sam Birdsall (170 pounds) and Matthew Hellus (138) also picked up a win apiece for the Blazers.

As a team, the Blazers finished 12th with 22 points. Cheyenne East JV won the team title with 239 points, while Kelly Walsh JV was second with 199.

Torrington heads to the annual Ron Thon Invite on Friday and Saturday in Riverton.
