Blazer tennis gets season started

TORRINGTON – The Torrington Trailblazer tennis team got their season started Saturday in a jamboree hosted in Casper.
The Blazers were one of seven teams in attendance at the jamboree. Kelly Walsh, Natrona, Sheridan, Cody, Thunder Basin and Rawlins joined Torrington in the day full of action. Because there were so many teams and matches played, the games were shortened. Each match was five games and games did not need to be won by two points.

Ethan Creagar turned in a solid day, going 8-1 in boys A singles. He took second overall in the division. Clay Peterson joined Creagar in A singles, posting a 5-4 record. Also on the boy’s side, Koby Ringle competed in the B singles division, but was unable to pick up a win. Mason Brummell and Brian Fenn, as well as Levi Wickham and Mason Weis competed in B double, but results were unavailable.
Richelle Fitzsimmons had the best finish for the girls, going 5-3 in B singles action and tying for second in the division. Emi Glass represented the Blazers in A singles, going 1-6 on Saturday. In doubles action, Mia Saucedo and Shelby Luttrell competed in the A division, with Aubree Powell and Sera Glass taking the court in the B division. Results were unavailable for the doubles pairings.
“The tourney was spread over five locations and everyone got to play a bunch of matches and see many different opponents,” coach Lyle Wiley said. “It was a great experience to start a season, because there were a bunch of opportunities for our young players to get experience. Plus, the atmosphere was positive and the event was fun.”
The Torrington tennis team played Rawlins on Tuesday after the press deadline. The Blazers return to the court Saturday in Laramie with games against Green River (12 p.m.) and Rock Springs (2:30 p.m.).
