Blazer indoor track team opens 2021 season

GILLETTE – With nearly 30 members out for the first-year team, the Torrington High School, combined with Southeast and Lingle-Fort Laramie, indoor track team finished fourth in both the boys’ and girls’ team standings at the end of the day.

Torrington combined for four wins on the day – two boys and two girls.

In the girls’ division, junior Jordan Stoddard was the lone high jumper to clear 5 feet to win the event. Junior Allison Brummell placed third in the event clearing, 4 feet, 8 inches.

The other win came in the 4x400-meter relay. Senior Sera Glass, junior Tyne Stokes, freshman Tylar Stoddard and Jordan Stoddard picked up the win in 4 minutes, 33.2 seconds, beating out Laramie High School by eight seconds.

Senior Kameron Stitt finished eighth in the 55-meter dash in 8.12 seconds, while Hailey Boslau led four Lady Blazer runners in the 200-meter dash with 22nd-place finish in 32.58 seconds. Emma Walker was 26th in 33.12, while Gabrielle David was 27th in 33.36. Maria Cronk was 34th in 34.52.

The Lady Blazers placed a pair in the top five of the 400-meter dash. Stokes finished fourth in 1:07.61, while Tylar Stoddard placed fifth in 1:09.06. Boslau came home 11th in 1:16.39.

In addition to the win in the 4x400 relay, Glass also placed third in the 800-meter run in 2:39.2, and Ada Merrigan finished fourth in the two-mile run in 14:09.77.

In the 55-meter hurdles, Walker finished sixth in 10.57 seconds.

In relay action, the 4x200 team of Boslau, Kyndra Wiford, Walker and Stokes placed sixth in 2:09.07, while the 1,600-sprint medley team of Wiford, Stitt, Tylar Stoddard and Merrigan placed fourth in 5:04.23.

In field events, Brummell picked up a second top five with a fifth in long jump with a leap of 14 feet, 10.25 inches, while Stitt placed a 15th at 13-3.75. Brummell also scored a third-place finish in the triple jump at 32-3.

In shot put, Sarah Searle’s toss of 18-4 was good for 15th.

The Lady Blazers finished the day with 68 points to finish fourth. Laramie won the event with 149, edging Campbell County with 146. Cheyenne Central was third with 125.5.

In the boys’ division, the Blazers also scored two victories.

Sophomore Kyland Fuller won the 800-meter run in 2:07.84, while senior Timothy Randolph placed 14th in 2:27.16.

The other win went to the 1,600-sprint medley relay team of Dylan Packard, Benjamin Fuller, Kyland Fuller and senior Cody Pierce.

Pierce also finished sixth in the 200-meter dash in 25.13, while Benjamin Fuller was ninth in 25.48. Juan-Carlos Steven placed 20th in 27.5.

In the 1,600-meter run, Weston Cronk finished 13th in 5:21.75, and in the two-mile run, Aydan Loya was third in 11:49.56.

In field events, Benjamin Fuller’s jump of 18-2.5 was good for seventh in long jump, and in shot put freshman Tyler Bennick threw for 30-8 for an 11th-place finish.

The Blazers scored 36 points to finish fourth. Cheyenne Central won the team title with 183, while Laramie was second with 151. Campbell County was third with 110.

The Torrington indoor track team is back in action on Saturday, Feb. 6 in Gillette.
