RAWLINS – The Torrington Trailblazers boys soccer team lost a 3-1 decision in the regular season finale on the road Saturday against Rawlins, which sends the Blazers to the qualifying round.
Rawlins struck first, converting on a penalty kick in the 35th minute to go up 1-0, a lead that the Outlaws carried into the break. Rawlins scored again in the 46th minute off a corner kick to go up 2-0, followed shortly by another Outlaw goal on a set piece.
Tristen Kingsley cut into the Outlaw lead with a goal off an assist from Braden Mechem, but that was the only goal Torrington could score, falling 3-1.
“We are just working on putting the ball into the back of the net,” coach Jeshua Arnusch said. “I feel like we are playing really well, except we can’t score. We are doing great defensively and then we have a few mental breaks that keep costing us in the win column.”
The Blazers dropped to 8-7-1 on the year, with a 1-2-1 mark in the conference. Their record against 3A Southeast opponents put Torrington third in the conference heading into the qualifying round. In the qualifying round on Saturday in Worland, the Blazers play Riverton, the second seed from the southwest, at 2 p.m.
“Hopefully, we can start finishing out shot,” Arnusch said. “If we do that, we can still reach our goal of a championship run.”
