Blazer boys and girls take second

WHEATLAND – The Torrington Lady Trailblazers racked up 89 team points, while the Blazer boys finished with 76, both of which were enough to earn second at the Wheatland Invitational on Tuesday.
The 76 points for the Blazers came up just shy of the top spot that went Glenrock, who had 79 points. Burns finished third as a team with 62.5 points. In the girls’ action, Pine Bluffs took the crown with 100 points, and Douglas came in third with 86.5 points.
Adia Sherbeyn raced her way to the top of the podium, taking first in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:39.25. Rounding out the distance events, Brielle Bivens snagged seventh in the 1600-meter run, clocking a time of 6:39.36.
Logan Murphy was the other Lady Blazer to capture gold, finishing first in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 50.71 seconds. Cheyenne Mickle (11th, 1:03.30) and Falecia Blow (12th, 1:05.28) both competed in the longer hurdles race. In the 100-meter hurdles, Mickle took 11th and Blow finished 15th.
Shelbey Prusia continued her hot streak in the sprints, taking the top spot in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.16 seconds. Latosha Wiford, who took sixth (13.92 seconds), and Katie Wiford, who took 16th (14.55 seconds), were not far behind.
Prusia also took second in the 200-meter dash, clocking a time of 27.65 seconds. Latosha Wiford finished fifth with a time of 28.60 seconds and Onalisa Albaugh turned in a time of 28.69 seconds to take sixth. In the 400-meter dash, Albaugh snagged sixth, with a time of 1:07.78 and Katie Wiford took ninth with a time of 1:09.21.
The Torrington girls dominated the two shorter relays, taking first in the both the 400-meter relay (53.43 seconds) and 1600-meter relay (4:32.14).

Murphy continued her strong day in the field events, taking first in the long jump, clearing 16 feet, 6 inches. Dantia Palmer (11th) and Renee Cline (13th) had jumps of 13 feet, 7 inches and 13 feet, 5 inches in the long jump. Palmer found her way into first in the triple jump, clearing 32 feet. Cline took fifth with a jump of 29 feet, 5.5 inches and Chrissy Lira cleared 28 feet, 4 inches to snag seventh.
In the pole vault, Albaugh took fourth after clearing 7 feet, 9 inches. Nakalyn Garner finished seventh, while Sarandon Keeran grabbed 13th.
Pamela Pierce was the best thrower among the Lady Blazers, snagging second in the discus with a throw of 99 feet, 1 inch. Tayte Rodriguez (22nd), Chloe Krick (29th) and Teagan Feldt (50th) rounded out the discus throwers for the Torrington girls. In the shot put, Rodriguez was the best Lady Blazer, finishing 20th with a throw of 24 feet, 2.5 inches. Krick was not far behind, taking 22nd (24 feet, 1 inch) and Feldt took 47th.
Pake Haun was the only Blazer boy to reach the top of the podium, finishing first in the 3200-meter run with a time of 11:37.61. In the other distance events, Aaron Borger (second, 2:06.58) and Chance Newman (fifth, 2:28.90) competed in the 800 and Josh Posten ran in the 1600-meter run (third, 5:21.04).
Bo Moorehouse had a solid day in the sprints, taking second in the 400-meter dash (54.78 seconds) and sixth in the 200-meter dash (23.75 seconds). Tristan DeMott took fifth (55.25 seconds) and Kevin Parish secured 12th (58.46 seconds) in the 400.
Frank Rand was the best Blazer in the two shortest races, taking fifth in both the 100, with a time of 11.77 seconds, and the 200, with a time of 23.67 seconds. Just behind Rand in the 100-meter dash was Mondell Tolman, who finished sixth, clocking a time of 11.85 seconds.
Bret Posten (11th, 11.99 seconds), Parish (22nd, 12.42 seconds), Cade Schwartzkoft (12.43 seconds), Dylan Waller (31st, 12.75 seconds) and Jacob Wilhoit (42nd, 13.28 seconds) all competed in the 100-meter dash. Tolman (11th, 24.67 seconds), Parish (18th, 25.68 seconds) and Wilhoit (23rd, 26.68) all raced in the 200-meter dash, rounding out the sprinters for Torrington.
Brice Krick ran in the 110-meter hurdles, taking 10th with a time of 18.44 seconds, and the 300-meter hurdles, finishing eighth with a time of 44.34 seconds. Jesse Lay joined Krick in the 300-meter hurdles, sliding into 15th with a time of 47.88 seconds.
The Torrington boys dominated the relays, taking first in both the 400-meter relay (45.57 seconds) and the 1600-meter relay (3:41.05). The 3200-meter relay team finished second with a time of 8:47.25.
The Blazer boys combined for four top-eight finishes between the two throwing events. Nathaniel Woodruff paced Torrington in the discus, taking second with a throw of 122 feet, 3 inches. He took sixth in the shot put with a throw of 41 feet, 5.5 inches. Jacob Wambolt led the Blazers in the shot, clearing 43 feet, 5.5 inches to take third. Aaron Lora claimed seventh in the discus with a throw of 107 feet, 9 inches.
In the shot put, Corbin Harris (11th, 38 feet), Loya (14th, 36 feet, 8 inches) Victor Gomez (14th, 36 feet, 8 inches), Tyler Schaub (27th, 34 feet, 1 inch), Brandon Bennick (33 feet, 3 inches) and Trevor Warren (44th, 28 feet, 10 inches) rounded out the Blazer competitors. Harris (14th, 99 feet, 7 inches), Wambolt (21st, 95 feet, 5 inches), Schaub (25th, 92 feet, 1 inch), Brandon Bennick (26th, 91 feet, 4 inches), Gomez (28th, 90 feet, 7 inches) and Warren (44th, 76 feet, 10 inches) all threw in the discus.
Jared Spencer led the Blazers in the pole vault, taking fifth after clearing 11 feet, 3 inches. Schwartzkoft and Trey Rodriguez both cleared 10 feet, 9 inches, tying them for sixth. Casey Britton was the only Blazer to compete in the high jump, getting over 5 feet, 6 inches to take seventh.
In the triple jump, Lay cleared 35 feet, 3 inches, earning him 10th. Rounding out the field events, Torrington had three compete in the long jump. Waller finished 14th after jumping 15 feet, 9 inches. Brett Posten took 21st (14 feet, 3 inches) and Lay took 23rd (13 feet, 4 inches).
The Blazers return to action for the Wiseman Invitational in Torrington today. Action starts at 3 p.m.
