TORRINGTON – Memorial services for Betty M. Hickman, 66, will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at the Colyer Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bill Eaton officiating.
Betty died May 21, 2019, at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff, Neb., with her family by her side. Cremation has taken place.
Memorials may be given to DSI in Torrington. Arrangements are by the Colyer Funeral Home and condolences may be sent to www.colyerfuneralhome.com.
Betty was born Aug. 17, 1952, in Torrington, the daughter of Archie and Esther (Gibbs) Garrelts. She grew up and received her education in Torrington, graduating Torrington High School in 1970. She married Robert Hickman on Nov. 25, 1972, on the family homestead in southwest Goshen County. She worked at Ten Pin Tropics, Daylight Donut, St. Joseph Children’s Home and Main Street Market before starting work at DSI in 2001. She quit there in 2014 due to health issues and to babysit her grandchildren.
Betty enjoyed computers, sewing, crocheting, tatting and gardening. She was a member of the English Lutheran Church in Torrington.
Betty is survived by her husband Robert of Torrington; her mother Esther Garrelts of Torrington; a son, Brady (Casey) Hickman of Torrington; a daughter, Brandy (Amy Everhart) of Lincoln, Neb.; two sisters: Dorothy Fornstrom of Pinedale and Joyce Schubarth of Torrington; two brothers: William Garrelts of Torrington and Wayne Garrelts of Statesville, N.C.; and three grandchildren Kashen, Ada Mae and Kody Hickman.
She was preceded in death by her father; a brother John; and a sister Margaret Kay.
