Barbara C. Huff Hansen

TORRINGTON – Barbara Hansen passed away peacefully at Community Hospital in Torrington on February 20, 2022.  Cremation has taken place and no service is planned.  Colyer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.  Memorials may be sent to Gracie’s Promise, P. O. Box 1366, Torrington.

Barbara was born March 16, 1938, to Harry R. and Florence (Matlock) Huff at the family home in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. She was the third of five children in the family. She grew up and attended schools in Scottsbluff, graduating in 1956 from Scottsbluff High School. Barbara worked at was then Methodist Hospital (now RWMC) before graduating.  It was while she worked at the hospital that she met her future husband George Barnhart of Guernsey. Barb and George were married on February 10, 1957 in Torrington and lived in Guernsey. To this union, four children were born; Sheri, Kim, Kelly and Bill.  

Barbara received a cosmetology degree from Huntley Cosmetology School in 1982, and later an Associate Degree from Eastern Wyoming College.  Barbara lived in Guernsey for several years after she and George divorced, later moving to Torrington where she worked at Banner Health Care for twenty-three years and then for H & R Block for 10 years.  

Barbara met the love of her life, Roy Hansen. They were together for several years and married on August 6, 2011. Roy passed away on June 12, 2013.  

Barbara was a member of the First Wyoming United Presbyterian Church where she served as a Deacon and Elder. Barb was a lifetime member of the VFW where she served as Chapter President and District 5 President.  She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 22 in Torrington and member of Beta Sigma Phi; Alpha Alpha Chapter in Torrington.  

Barbara enjoyed watching Nebraska Cornhusker football, Wyoming Cowboy football, the Denver Broncos and Colorado Rockies.  She also enjoyed reading and putting together puzzles. Barb was happiest when she would get to see her family, especially the grand and great-grand-children. 

Barbara is survived by her children; Sheri (Bryan) Lay of Wheatland; Kim (Chris Cox) Barnhart of Davenport, Iowa; Kelly (Doug) Thacker of Casper; Bill (Lori) Barnhart of Shelton, Washington; sister Maryann Ott of Gering, Neb.; grandchildren Dusti (Steve) Bastian, Darin (Kristal) Lay, Jeremy Thacker, Nathan (Starlyn Dove) Thacker, Cody Barnhart, Ty Barnhart, Collin (Chandler) Barnhart; fifteen great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; one aunt, Marvel Moore of Sidney, Neb.; nieces Valerie Harnish, Carol Flint and Debra Huff; two nephews Dan Huff and Kevin Ott; and special friends Ecil Reyes, Judy Pluhar, Diane Kelly, Florence Haugh and Luree Ferguson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Roy Hansen; brothers Harry Huff, Jr. and Duard Lee Huff; sister, Patricia Huff;  brother-in-law, Jerry L. Ott; two nieces, DeAnn Huff Weishaar and Tami Ott Busch and great niece, Sofia Grace Chanchola.
