Back to his roots

GOSHEN COUNTY – After two years at the helm of Lincoln Elementary School, Principal Tim Williams will head south to act as Dean of Students and athletic director at Southeast Schools, as well as kindergarten through sixth grade principal at LaGrange.

Williams is no stranger to the area – he attended school in LaGrange through his sophomore year, until the high school closed in 1992, and finished earning his diploma at Southeast, graduating in 1994.

“I was athletic director at Southeast for five years – from 2010 to 2015, and I coached there since 2000 (until 2015),” Williams said. “I also taught fifth- and sixth-grade at Southeast.”

Calling the shift within the district a “family move”, Williams explained his wife, Renee, is a longtime kindergarten teacher at Southeast and his daughter will attend second grade there next year.

“I (also) really miss the sports aspect,” Williams said. “I started in this district in 2000 as a new teacher, and coached for all but three of those years, and the three years I didn’t coach, I was athletic director. I’m looking forward to getting back into the athletic side of things. That was a big draw.”

Although Williams admitted he is excited about returning to education and athletics in the southern part of the county, he said he values his time at
Lincoln Elementary.

“I think these have been two of the most important years of my professional career,” Williams said. “They’ve really taught me a lot. Coming from being a teacher, it’s really been an eye-opening experience to sit on other side of the desk.

“The people at Lincoln have just been tremendous,” he continued. “Just helping me get in here, get the work done and being open-minded with what we’ve been trying to do. These two years at Lincoln have absolutely been the best two years of my life. When I took this job, there were people who went out of their way to tell me the things that were wrong with the school, but there are so many great things about this school that people need to know, too.

“It’s been a really tremendous
experience.”
