GOSHEN COUNTY – CenturyLink, the nation-wide internet and communications company, was still struggling Friday morning, dealing with wide-spread service outages which impacted most of the country starting Thursday.
National news reports indicated the outages hit customers across the country, knocking out internet services and, in some cases, affecting customers of cellular carrier Verizon. A late-Thursday tweet from the company noted company engineers identified a “network element” affecting services, according to a report on the CNBC website.
CenturyLink, based in Monroe, La., didn’t provide details, the report went on to say. Outages were reported from the east coast to the west coast.
“Restoring impacted services for our customers is very important to us,” said CenturyLink spokesperson Mike Baker, reading from a prepared statement, on Friday. “We have seen good progress. Service restoration is not yet complete. Our teams are continuing their efforts to resolve these issues and we will continue to provide updates throughout the day.”
Baker said he could not provide any additional information regarding the cause or scope of the outages, nor could he project a time to resolve the issues.
“We’ve got a lot of people looking into this and trying to find out what happened,” Baker said. “We’re just not there yet.”
